Winter Road Trip Drive North On A9 To Moulin Highland Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of a Winter road trip drive, with Scottish music, North on the A9 to visit Moulin in Highland Perthshire. Robert Louis Stevenson, the Scottish novelist and travel writer, stayed at Fishers Hotel in Pitlochry in June 1881 with his wife Fanny and his mother. They then moved to Kinnaird Cottage in Moulin. Here Stevenson worked on the short stories, Thrawn Janet, The Merry Men, and The Body Snatcher. The A9 is a major road running from central Scotland to Scrabster Harbour, Thurso in the far north, via Stirling, Bridge of Allan, Perth and Inverness. At 273 miles, it is the longest road in Scotland and the fifth longest A road in the United Kingdom. Historically it was the main road between Edinburgh and John o' Groats, and has been called the spine of Scotland. Drive with great care and patience on this road as it regularly appears in lists of Scotland's most dangerous roads

Autumn Drive To Edradour Whisky Distillery Pitlochry Highland Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland Autumn video of a road trip drive from Pitlochry through Moulin to visit Edradour Whisky Distillery in Highland Perthshire. Established in 1825, the distillery was traditionally run by three men but now there are just two. Only twelve casks are produced each week. Edradour takes it water from a stream on Ben Vrackie called Edradour burn. A variety of whiskies are available from the distillery. Only the Edradour 10-year is chill-filtered, a process by which the esters and oils are removed, producing a cleaner look to the whisky, which when chilled or has ice added to it does not turn cloudy. There is, amongst others, a non chill filtered 12 year old malt, some of which goes into the House of Lords and Clan Campbell blends. Also produced for two days in a week is a heavily peated version of the Edradour called Ballechin

Old Photographs Kirk Yetholm Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Kirk Yetholm a small village in the Scottish Borders. The Border Hotel public house is the official end of the Pennine Way. Kirk Yetholm was for centuries the headquarters of the Romani people, Gypsies, in Scotland. The last king of the Gypsies was crowned in 1898 and the Gypsies have been integrated and are no longer a separate ethnic minority. In 1942 the village school building was converted into a Scottish Youth Hostels Association hostel. Queen Esther Faa Blythe, perhaps the most famous Gypsy monarch of all, took up residence in the Gypsy Palace on November 16th 1861. After Queen Esther’s death in 1883, the Gypsy Palace was renovated by the local wool manufacturer and owner of much of the village, Peter Govanlock. Queen Esther’s son, Charles Faa Blythe continued to live in the Palace though 15 years were to pass before his coronation as the new Gypsy King. The coronation took place on May 30th 1898 and was a huge event with over 10,000 people descending on Kirk Yetholm. King Charles II, as he was known, continued to live in the Gypsy Palace until his death just four years later. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
