Mounds and the Milky Way
Did you know there are ancient structures as old as the pyramids in the Unites States? !!! Well I didn't .....but now I am on the trail to find locations of the 'mound builders'.
Many have been destroyed but there are thousands of mounds left. The people who built them have been lumped into 3 groups but there presence and buildings span 10,000 years.
I'm excited. I stopped at Mounds State Park near Anderson Indiana and walked the trails to the 4 mounds that are prominent here. There are 10-11 mounds but these 4 are clearly marked and visible.
These simple structures are both beautiful and peaceful. Whatever they did here has lingered. Awesome experience.
What a thrill for me....I hope you enjoy too

Temple Mound at Crystal River State Archaeological Park
Persons in authority like to establish or place themselves above the general population to reinforce their status. Temple mounds in prehistory are believed to have been built for that purpose. Just as in today's society - the higher up you go - the more powerful you appear to those in the community. The largest/highest platform (Temple) mound was built sometime after 600 AD. Today, only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the original mound remains.
This is at Crystal River State Archaeological Park and you can find out more about this place at:

Angel Mounds Evansville,Indiana 2010
my visit to Angel mounds Evansville, indiana 2010...Beginning after 1000 CE, people of the Mississippian culture built a town at this site, covering 100 acres (0.40 km2) and situated on a large, terraced mound near the river. Today, Angel Mounds State Historic Site is nationally recognized as one of the best-preserved prehistoric Native American sites in the United States..the town was surrounded by a stockade, with the Ohio River acting as a barrier on the south side. A gateway was placed to the east, about a fourth of the way around from where the eastern flank of the stockade meets the river. A second barrier, a type of picket fence, was set 14 feet outside the stockade. It was designed to slow the attackers as they came into range.

Locations of Delaware Indian villages in Muncee,Anderson, Indiana
There were a number of Moravian Delaware Indian villages here as well as some Native American religion type villages also. Buckongahelastown or Oldtown was here and the monument and locations are shown. All of these villages were located close to the White River. Tecumseh and The Prophet visited these towns in the early 1800's in an attempt to form an Indian Confederacy which was amenable to Native American interests. The Prophet is alledged to have been responsible for the execution of 2 Principal Chiefs who did not want to be a part of the confederacy. These markers are also here. The Prophet is alledged to have accused the chiefs of being warlocks! Thanks for watching! Also included is some expert scupture by an American sculptor

October 5, 1960 - Senator John F. Kennedy's remarks in Anderson, Indiana
Remarks of Senator John F. Kennedy, Anderson, IN
''Unless this country moves again, this State won't move. I don't care what happens in Indiana by itself - unless the rest of the country is going ahead. Who buys the products of General Motors? Not the citizens of Indiana but the citizens of the United States. Therefore, in this State, which for 24 years has sustained the Republicans, I think you should give us a chance. I think you should give us a chance to lead.''
