Climbing Gunung (Mount) Agung - Bali's most sacred volcano
This video shows the climbing (or rather descending) of the sacred volcano Gunung (Mount) Agung, the holiest mountain in Bali, Indonesia.
The highest point of this stratovolcano is 3142 m (or 9583 ft)
According to the Balinese the volcano Gunung Agung is a replica of Mount Meru, the central axis of the universe.
The most important temple on Bali - Pura Besakih - is the Mother Temple and is located on the slope of the mountain. Therefore the mountain may not be climbed on holy days.
Gunung Agung is an active strato volcano and last erupted in 1963-1964. The mountain has a large and very deep crater which occasionally belches smoke and ash. From a distance, the mountain appears to be perfectly conical, despite the existence of the large crater.
From the peak of the mountain, it is possible to see the peak of Mount Rinjani on the island of Lombok, although both mountains are most often covered in clouds.
09/2017 ALERT STATUS:
Due to current increased seismic activity and frequent tremors and lava flows (according to locals) under and on the volcano it is no longer possible to go trekking or climbing on or near mount Agung. Since mid September 2017 thousands of local people and tourists have been evacuated as authorities fear that the holy volcano might erupt. In fact there is currently a no go perimeter of 8 to 12 km from the summit. The last time Mount Agung erupted was in 1963-1964 killing an estimated 1100 people. The scuba diving resorts catering to tourists north of the volcano and close to the USAT Liberty wreck are within the perimeter and thus are no longer operational at the moment. More info on their websites and with your tour operator. The Airport in Denpasar, Ngurah Rai International may become unavailable in case of an eruption, so check before booking your air ticket to Bali. It seems the sea connection by slow ferry from Lombok to Bali is still operational.

Mount Agung Bali | Sunrise Volcano Trek
Last year at age 25 I decided i would hike a mountain each year for my birthday, regular parties don't cut it for me. This is part two. My friends had already left Bali, I hired a guide and waited to be picked up at midnight. Video picks up from there.
We hiked Mount Agung for sunrise. It took about 4 hours each way. There were about 8 other people at the top including guides. The sunrise and views were incredible. It is a fairly strenuous hike on the way back down in the heat, a lot more so than Mount Batur which I did the week before.
Have fun if you do this hike. Leave a comment about your experience.

Mount Agung Bali Tracking
Towering 3,142 meters above sea level, Mount Agung is the highest mountain on the island of Bali and the fifth highest volcano in the whole of Indonesia. Mount Agung has huge spiritual significance to the people of the island, and is home to the ‘Mother Temple’ of Besakih. It forms part of a chain of volcanoes that make up the back bone of Bali. Mount Agung last erupted in 1963. This was one of the largest 20th century eruptions anywhere in the world. At lower elevations the mountain is covered in lush forest, but this soon gives way to a desolate landscape of barren volcanic rock and ash. From the peak of Mount Agung the views are extraordinary in all directions, but perhaps most dramatic to the east where the sun rises above Mount Rinjani on Lombok. Mount Agung dominates the surrounding area influencing the climate. The clouds come from the west and Agung takes their water so that the west is lush and green and the east dry and barren.
Explore Bali, Mount Agung, the biggest Volcano of Bali Indonesia, Pura Pasar Agung Bali

I JUST PUT SOME SUBTITLES AS MY VOICE WAS SOMETIME TOO LOW BY RESPECT TO THE TEMPLE, DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE TOO MUCH NOISE IN A HOLY PLACE, SO PUT THE SUBTITLES ON IF YOU WANNA HEAR WHAT I SAY

Mount Batur (Gunung Batur) is an active volcano located at the center of two concentric calderas north west of Mount Agung, Bali, Indonesia. The south east side of the larger 10×13 km caldera contains a caldera lake. The inner 7.5-kilometer-wide caldera, which was formed during emplacement of the Bali (or Ubud) ignimbrite, has been dated at about 23,670 and 28,500 years ago [1]
The SE wall of the inner caldera lies beneath Lake Batur; Batur cone has been constructed within the inner caldera to a height above the outer caldera rim. The Batur stratovolcano has produced vents over much of the inner caldera, but a NE-SW fissure system has localized the Batur I, II, and III craters along the summit ridge. Historical eruptions have been characterized by mild-to-moderate explosive activity sometimes accompanied by lava emission. Basaltic lava flows from both summit and flank vents have reached the caldera floor and the shores of Lake Batur in historical time. The caldera contains an active, 700-metre-tall stratovolcano rising above the surface of Lake Batur. The first historically documented eruption of Batur was in 1804, and it has been frequently active since then.
The caldera is populated and includes the two main villages of Kedisan and Toya Bungkah. The locals largely rely on agriculture for income but tourism has become increasingly popular due to the relatively straightforward trek to the summit of the central crater.[2]
The lake, Danau Batur, is the largest crater lake on the island of Bali and is a good source of fish.
