Some of the most spectacular views of Dunedin and the surrounding area can be enjoyed from the top of Mount Cargill. Rising 676 metres above sea level, it dominates the northern end of Dunedin.Mount Cargill is about 15 kilometres north of Dunedin city. Allow three to four hours for the four kilometre walk. Although steep at times, the track is well formed and suitable for people of almost any fitness level. It is advisable to take warm clothing as the weather can change quickly near the summit.

This was Snuffs first hike with me, though I carried him most of the way as he was too small.

2010 February 22 - Dunedin, New Zealand (Mount Cargill)
21 Waitati to Dunedin via Mt Cargill Road on a Boom Mustang Trike
Welcome to the next episode of a seven day North Otago road trip that started on Waitangi Weekend (early February 2017). Today’s film continues the journey south of Evansdale, and on toward Waitati where we detour off the State Highway One and opt to head over to Dunedin via the Mount Cargill Road.
Mount Cargill Road is a narrow and often winding road, but the views down to the Otago Peninsula from the ridge line, make the detour worth it. Probably not suitable for large campervans, but easy for our nimble Boom Mustang trike.
Fortunately the rain cleared, leaving that fresh shower breeze and minimal traffic for the short run.

What’s changing on Mt. Cargill/Kapukataumahaka? (Sky Nature Sit)
Mist, wind, and wings! The peak of Mount Cargill felt pretty chilly, so I dropped down to see the mountain while sitting with birds.
Nature Sits are a way of meditating with your eyes open. For me, they’re how I stay connected with the outdoors, and they give me a chance to slow down and see what’s changing.
Try one for yourself by finding a spot, staying still as you can, and seeing what changes. Then share it with me in the comments!
DURATION: 30 minute Nature Sit
