Part 2 of our family adventure in Japan! We visited Mount Fuji and the beautiful city of Kyoto!
Our trip included a Geisha experience for my daughter, visiting the Macaque monkeys of Arashiyama, the Bamboo forest, and eating delicious foods at the Nishiki market.
In Mount Fuji we slept on in a traditional Japanese hotel (ryokan) and visited the Chureito Pagoda Shrine

Welcome to our first video of 2020!
2020年のフジファミリー初動画へようこそ！
We visit Lake Tanuki near Mt. Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture. It's about a 2 hour drive from Tokyo.
Although we got up extra early to catch the sunrise, Seán was full of energy♪
今回はまず日の出を見るために、富士山の近くにある田貫湖に行きました！東京からは車で２時間ほどです！
朝早く起きたのに、ショニは元気一杯でした♪
This spot is famous for the Diamond Fuji phenomenon, where the sun comes up at the top of Mt. Fuji and looks like a diamond on a ring.
This can be seen twice a year, in April and August.
ここは「ダイヤモンド富士」で有名なところで、年2回（４月と８月）太陽が富士山の上から出ることで、ダイヤモンドのように見えます♪
Seánie enjoyed running around looking at the lake and the wild birds!
Lake Tanuki is a popular spot for birdwatching as there are different birds to be seen in each season.

田貫湖は季節ごとにいろんな鳥が観れる野鳥観察地で、バードウォッチャーに人気です！
After seeing the sunrise, we went to do Hatsumoude which means the first shrine visit of the New Year.
We visited Mt. Fuji Sengen Shrine, the largest and main shrine of over 1300 Sengen shrines in Japan!
It is located in Fujinomiya and dedicated to the sacred mountain.
日の出を見た後、富士山本宮浅間大社まで、初詣をしに行きました♪
この神社は日本中にある浅間神社１３００社の総本社で、富士山を神として祀っています♪
We bought a special Hamaya (arrow) at the shrine, with a mouse design (2020 is the year of the mouse!)!
神社では、2020年の干支子年デザインの破魔矢を買いました！
富士宮やきそばも食べました！
Next, let's drive to Yamanashi Prefecture to try Houtou nabe, a kind of stew which is so warming in the cold winter!
次はほうとう鍋を食べるため、山梨県までドライブします♪

We went to Mt. Fuji in Japan on Oct 4th, 2013. This is just after the off season, but the weather was great and it was safe to climb. There was barely anyone on the mountain with us. I think we saw 2 other people.
We started at the 5th station at 8:00 am and climbed to the top of Mt. Fuji. We took the Yoshida Trail. After the 8 station, the air gets thin and it is a lot harder to climb. It is an odd and awesome feeling.
Around the 6th station we found a snowboard. I thought it was a good idea to carry it to the top of Mt. Fuji and try to snowboard down. I failed miserably :)
We took a bus from Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal in Tokyo to Mt. Fuji 5th station. You can make bus reservations here:

Japanese Fire Festival for Mt. Fuji
At the foot of Mt. Fuji a fire festival is held by the town of Fujiyoshida in the hopes of placating the goddess of the mountain and keep Fuji-san from erupting for one more year.
The festival goes back 500 years but in its origins it stretches back to the fabled Age of Gods period of Japan. The grandson of the sun goddess was sent down to rule and he took to wife the daughter of a mountain goddess. She became pregnant in one night which made her husband suspicious. She took offense to this and built a hut with no door. She told her doubting her husband she would set it on fire and give birth to his children whom being divine would not be harmed. She went inside setting it on fire and proceed to give birth to 3 children who were unharmed thus proving her innocence.
The torches lit at Fujiyoshida symbolize the fire she lit to prove her innocence.

This is the animated version of the Jules Verne classsic . Englishman Phileas Fogg wished to marry his fiance' Belinda Maze, neice of aristocrat Lord Maze. Maze will not consent to the marriage unless Fogg proves himself worthy of Belinda's hand. The challenge: Go around the world in 80 days(which was impossible to do in 1872). Lord Maze also wagers 25,000 pounds Fogg will not succeed. Fogg accepts the challenge and the bet. To make sure he wins the bet; Maze hired the detective Mr. Fix to sabotage Fogg's task.
