Hakodate (函館市 Hakodate-shi) is a city and port located in Oshima Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. It is the capital city of Oshima Subprefecture.

As of July 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 279,851 with 143,221 households, and a population density of 412.83 persons per km2 (1,069.2 persons per sq. mi.). The total area is 677.77 km2 (261.69 sq mi). The city is now the third biggest in Hokkaido after Sapporo and Asahikawa.

Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, Mt. Hakodate Ropeway: JAPAN VLOG EP5

We walked around at Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse. It's mostly shopping and eating. We ate a lot of different things and the kids enjoyed it a lot. We got our lunch at Seico Mart, which is a convenience store in Hakodate. Everything looked good and was cheap compared to the US, so we went overboard and loaded up next day's breakfast as well. At night time, we went up to one of the most well known spots in Hakkodate for some night view at Mt. Hakodate.

Mount Hakodate Ropeway | Cable Car & Sunset

I was in Hokkaido for a total of 8 days in mid September 2017. We took the 3 minute cable car ride up Mount Hakodate at roughly 5PM and managed to catch the sunset at 6:15PM on that day. It was just the right amount of breeze, not too chilly and not too packed. Watching the sunset and the city lights slowly turning on one by one was such an awesome experience. In this video we are traveling from Sapporo to Hakodate. Along the way we'll explore Moerenuma Park and the Sapporo Beer Museum in Sapporo before stopping for the night at the quaint lakeside town of Toyako Onsen. On day two we'll visit the area affected by the 2000 eruption of Mt. Usu, then walk around Onuma Park before finally finishing in Hakodate to take in one of the top three night views in all Japan.

Join us around Hakodate - the end of the bullet train line in Hokkaido, Japan, to see one of Japan's top 3 night views at twilight!

It's extremely cold in Hakodate in winter! This was filmed in February in the snow and freezing temperatures. But that didn't stop us taking the tram to explore the Motomachi district, with European-style houses and churches and going on the ropeway up Mount Hakodate to see the beautiful night view. It's best to go at sunset, so you can see the colours and the lights. Then we looked for restaurants in Hakodate and found an amazing curry restaurant called Masala Curris (they have vegetarian curry!). It was delicious! And one of my favourite memories from the trip - walking along the snowy streets at night. It was so quiet, and completely the opposite of Tokyo!

Japan, Part Four — Hakodate City

Japan is my favorite place on the planet and I recently got to spend a week there as a guest of the Japan National Tourism Organization, and here's what happened. This is our fourth leg, a visit to the city of Hakodate, on the northern island of Hokkaido. It was a quick 24 hour visit, but we packed it full of fun, including a visit to see one of the top 3 night views in the world, a party where I was causing trouble by being left handed, exploring the Hakodate morning market, eating the best lunch ever, and finishing off with a lucky view of a normally shy mountain peak. 函館市 元町 北海道 Hakodate Bay Hokkaido JAPAN

元町 Motomachi offers a uniquely delightful cityscape infused with foreign and Japanese culture. Hakodate was one of the first ports in Japan to open its doors to foreign trade, some 150 years ago. Motomachi was the first area acquiring a Western-influenced streetscape which remains to this day. With sloping streets offering views of the port and stylish western buildings such as foreign churches and old buildings to be seen.
BAY Hakodate shows an aspect different from the 金森赤レンガ倉庫 Kanemori historical red-brick Warehouse. Its symbol is the trench which was constructed around 1882. The chapel, cruising and cafe are located around this trench.The Michelin Green Guide Japon gives a one-star recommendation to the walk around Hakodate Port. A stroll in the refreshing sea breeze among the historical red-brick buildings of the port is a truly pleasurable experience. The red-brick warehouses are lit up at night, creating a distinctly romantic atmosphere.
