Trip up Mount Hays in Prince Rupert 2010
It was a beautiful week in Rupert and Terrace, So after one of my Paydays, i decided to hire my Cousins husband to drive us down to Rupert and up the mountain to the Thousand stairs platform. There was me, my cousin Denise, her old man Clifford snr and there youngest Seth(who we left with my Mom while we went up the mtn). We stopped first at the WW2 Dynamite shack, then started our way up the mountain road in a '95 Mazda MPV Rear drive Minivan--we even passed a 4WD SUV that was parked at the bottom of the mountain, that was hardcore-he drove passed the 4 kilometer mark, and couldn't get any further. Me and my cousin Denise were the only ones to venture to the thousand stairs platform-cliff stayed in the van with my PSP. It was awsome!
Next to the 1st Beach on Mount Hays in Prince Rupert
Me, my good friend, his gf & there baby went up the Kiwanis trail, it's 1 full mile straight up Mount Hays following many waterfalls. Back in 95 to 97 me and a gang of my friends used to Trip out on Acid or Shrooms, we brouhgt some booze and always had weed-it's a miracle none of us fell off cliffs or died. We got hurt though. We thought we were invincible, like most Teens-but eventually we got hurt-falling,Cuts,Grabbing Devils Club or twisting an ankle. It was a getaway for us, there was no one telling us what to do, no time to worry about-at the time we didnt have cell phones, one of my friends had a speaker on his walkman and we'd listen to Ministry/Metallica/Slayer and Techno. We'd eat our junk food, eat the Huckle/BlueBerries around us. It's usually Midnight before we start to hike back down the Pitch Black muddy & soaked Kiwanis trail-all we had was our lighters to keep the path lit. But as long as all of us were there in numbers, we felt safe. When we came back down and came to the fish hatchery, we cleaned up by the pond like girls hahaha, we made our way to the Civic Center where there was a Dance going on til 1'am-so we caught up with our other friends that were there(some sad to say arent here anymore). But it was like that for alot of the trips. Alot of people wanted to go up real bad after we told them, only a few actually made it. Now its me and maybe a couple of friends that go up every year, even while I work I go up. Its my Fortress of Solitude.
The Most Northern British Columbia Seaport - Prince Rupert - E18
In this episode, we explore the most northern seaport in British Columbia Canada, known as Prince Rupert. The town is on situated on Kaien Island (approximately 770 km (northwest of Vancouver), and is to linked mainland British Columbia by a short bridge.
Prince Rupert was incorporated on March 10, 1910. It was named for Prince Rupert of the Rhine, the first Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. Until recent years Prince Rupert thrived on the fishing and logging industry. Now it is the tourist trade and shipping of seagoing containers keeps this town alive.
We saw many campers, trailers, and motorcycles that braved the trip up the Canadian highways to check out Prince Rupert.
I walked up the hills to this church I could see from the harbor. This is the First Presbyterian Church. A day before we got to Prince Rupert this church held their final service. The first services in the gothic church was held more than 110 years earlier.

Mount Hays Hike
At the beginning of August we climbed to the very top of Mount Hays. Not the lookout which is over the Container Terminal, but to the very top where the radio towers are!
Way back in the day there used to be a gondola which would whisk you to the top, but it burned in the 1990s. Today views can be hard to come by once you're at the top, but there are a multitude of viewpoints which offer a pretty good lookout. We did manage to see a point of Haida Gwaii and Alaska though!
