Creative Arts Pikinini - TEKS Unit, Santo, Vanuatu
Creative Arts Pikinini (CAP) is a children's art program organised by Further Arts TEKS (Traditional Entertainment & Kastom Support) Unit on Espiritu Santo island, Vanuatu.
This video presents the activities of CAP in July 2015 in Luganville, Espiritu Santo island. The Luganville Municipality asked Creative Arts Pikinini to join pupils from Luganville’s schools in painting the women's food stalls at Unity Park, using “Healthy Lifestyle” as their theme. For two weeks the children worked hard on their stall, finishing their brightly coloured designs just in time for Children’s Day celebrations on 24 July.
The CAP program is an ongoing initiative of TEKS Unit to create a space for artistic development in children, thus supporting them to become open-minded and independent citizens.
This activity and production received funding support from UNESCO and the State of Kuwait. Other key support was received from Volunteer Service Abroad, Luganville Municipal Council, Manu Pozzi, Murray Lloyd and the TEKS Team.

Oyster Island off Vanuatu
We decided to beach the kayaks at one of the small islands off the southern end of Oyster Island and do some snorkelling. Good corals and fish there BUT then we saw the Snorkelling Tour Group stop and jump off the boat 200m in the opposite direction to where we were snorkelling. We figure they knew what they were doing so we headed out in their direction. The coral was GREAT there and plenty of colourful fish. Lots of 'canyons' cutting in from the drop off that were interesting to investigate. I saw a big clam with aqua blue and black strips which was the prettiest one I have ever seen. You can see more of the stories and photos on my website aussieholiday.com.au
