MTB Shuttle Day at Mt. Keira. Wollongong, NSW AUS.
Unfortunately I haven't been too far afield with my mountain biking recently. Although I have been riding a lot testing out the new Firebird 29, I haven't been travelling. Heading south from Sydney to Wollongong for a shuttle day has been about as exciting as it got last month.
We hit the usual trails, mainly sessioning Mt. Keria.
As you will hear in the video I've still been trying to get the setup of my new bike dialed. I had the shock and fork blue-printed (new seals, shim stack and oils) and have been playing with the sag, compression, and rebound. The weekend of the video it still wasn't perfect. The Fox Float X2 comes stock from Pivot with 3 volume spaces. I've since removed one and it feels soooo much better. I hit a few PRs on my most recent ride so I'm sure it's just small adjustments from here.

Mt Keira - Wollongong NSW Australia
Mount Keira /ˈkɪərə/ is a 464[2] metre high mountain lying four kilometres northwest of the city of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Its distinctive shape and proximity to Wollongong make it a major local landmark. It is noted for the views of the city from the popular summit lookout and its history of coal mining. It was formed as part of the Illawarra escarpment fold between 80 and 60 million years ago and the erosion by creeks that ensued.
Mount Keira is also the name of the suburb that includes the mountain's summit and southern flank.

Great cycle climb located just a few kilometres west of the Wollongong CBD. Site of the Keira Challenge ( which starts at the gates of Edmund Rice College (at around the 0.6km mark in the video). this was creepy. My friend was supposed to meet me to walk up it too but he was at home asleep! so I did it myself. i think it was meant to take 3 hrs but i did it in an hour and 15 mins i think..maybe it was 3 hrs up and back down again..who knows. but it was sooooo steep! and never ending. there was poo, big hairy thick spider webs, I did Eclectus parrot, i saw shoes and a sock..

Sunday was mountain bike shuttle day in the Wollongong area. Such good hand built trails around there. This session was on Mt. Kembla. Fast and steep. Great step down / step up line. One of those days you could deal with a bigger bike than the endruo rig. Luckily I've got a new bike in the works!

Wollongong is a coastal city in Australia, south of Sydney along the Grand Pacific Drive. Surfing beaches and rock pools line the coastline. Trails encircle the forests and rocky cliffs of Mt. Keira in the Illawarra mountain range, which frames the city. To the north, hang gliders launch from Bald Hill. South lie the Buddhist temple of Nan Tien and Lake Illawarra, a large lagoon with boating and fishing facilities.

Motorcycle Ride From West Wollongong Up Mount Keira
A quick trip on a Suzuki GS500F motorcycle from West Wollongong up and across Mount Keira NSW.
I have found this bike to be a great machine for commuting and zipping around town. Quick, nimble and relatively light, it is dependable and forgiving. Great bike for learners too. Manufactured over a lot of years so parts and mechanical knowledge of the bike are plentiful.
