We took a short break from Bangkok to visit some friend in Sumatra. After spending a couple of days in Padang, we climbed South East Asia's highest volcano Mt Kerinci before ending the trip with some amazing trekking in Lempur and finally flying out again from Padang.

Exploring Sumatra - Kerinci Seblat National Park #FamilyGoesToNationalPark Eps-8
Kerinci Seblat National Park is the largest national park on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It has a total area of 13,791 km2, and spans four provinces: West Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, and South Sumatra.
The park area includes a large part of the Barisan mountain range, which form the western spine of Sumatra island and includes the highest peak in Sumatra, Mount Kerinci (3,805 m), one of more than five active volcanoes in the national park. This mainly montane park includes hot springs, rivers with rapids, caves, scenic waterfalls, and the highest caldera lake in Southeast Asia - Lake Gunung Tujuh, while the Great Sumatran fault runs through the national park making the area of great interest to geologists. The park completely encircles the populated Kerinci valley.

Sebenarnya inj adalah pendakian gunung Kerinci yang dilakukan pada tanggal 26 Desember tahun 2017, pendakian dimusim hujan tentu memiliki resiko tersendiri, berangkat dari Cirebon -Jawa Barat dengan menggunakan jalur darat bus antar provinsi ,
berangkat dan mendaki hanya berdua, selama mendaki banyak bertemu dengan para pendaki lainnya yang gagal sampai ke puncak dikarenakan cuaca yang buruk, kabut tebal, hujan dan terjadi badai disekitaran puncak, hal ini juga yang memaksa pendaki dari Jerman, Russia, Jepang gagal kepuncak kerinci, bahkan menurut cerita frame tenda pendaki Jerman patah akibat terjangan angin badai yang begitu kuat, pendaki daei Jerman 2 orang perempuan
Ditengah perjalanan mendengar cerita tersebut sempat membikin saya dan teman saya mental down, serta sempat terpikir dan berucap untuk turun lagi, namun dengan pertimbangam sudah jauh jauh masa gagal, masalah badai dan cuaca buruk lainnya kita lihat nanti, akhirnya kita berdua bersepakat dan bersemangat melanjutkan pendakian
Dan alhamdulillah akhirnya dipos atas dekat tugu yudha cuaca berubah menjadi bersahabat dan akhirnya kami berdu serta bertemu dengan rombongan pendaki dari Padang yang membawa sepeda kepuncak Kerinci serta kelompok pendaki dari Bukit Tinggi sampai ke puncak

Jambi is another province settled in Sumatra Island, which properly located on the east coast of central Sumatra. The capital of this province is Jambi city.
The people in Jambi is dominated by the ethnic of Malay with the group of Kerinci and Minangkabau. The economic site from this province is mostly come from Jambi city as the capital of this province. The busy spot from Jambi city is on Batang Hari river as an oil and rubber-producer center.
Mount and Lake Kerinci is commonly visited by the tourist while they passing by to Jambi. The existance of flora and fauna in Jambi, makes this city own their particular of national park as a reservation for those habitats, and others tourism destination are Kerinci Seblat National Park, Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park, and Barbak National Park.
How to get there
Every day, there are 6 flights departing and arriving at Jambi. Flights from Jakarta would have spent one hour, 15 minutes from Palembang and an hour from Batam, as well as from Singapore.
Travelling by ship or ferry is also easy, from Batam it only takes 5 hours and 7 hours from Malaysia. To see and feel the road trip, it takes 6 hours from Palembang, 8 hours from Padang and 10 hours from Bengkulu.

Mount Kerinci, Highest Volcano in Indonesia | ඉන්දුනීසියාවේ උසම ගිනි කන්ද තරණය
Mount(Gunung) Kerinci also known as Indrapura Peak by locals, it is the highest volcano in South East Asia towering 3805m above sea level. This is an active volcano erupted very recently even in 2019(minor) and the major one being in 2004. It is located in kerinci region Jumbi province, sumatra. Kerinci is one of the favourite mountains among climbers in the region and Mount Rinjani among others.
It is a moderate hike and make sure you have fairly good fitness if your planning to conquer this. And be prepared for changing weather conditions close to peak as some climbers had to give up the climb in the middle due to heavy rain and low visibility. Elevation gain is around 2300m and hike start through lush green dense forest which continues until approximately 3000m while trail is clearly visible and easy to follow.

The Journey from Top Off Sumatera Island - Mt.Kerinci 3805 MDPL
Gunung Kerinci (juga dieja Kerintji, dan dikenal sebagai Gunung Gadang, Berapi Kurinci, Kerinchi, Korinci, atau Puncak Indrapura) adalah gunung tertinggi di Sumatra, gunung berapi tertinggi di Indonesia, dan puncak tertinggi di Indonesia di luar Papua. Gunung Kerinci terletak di Provinsi Jambi yang berbatasan dengan provinsi Sumatera Barat, di Pegunungan Bukit Barisan, dekat pantai barat, dan terletak sekitar 130 km sebelah selatan Padang. Gunung ini dikelilingi hutan lebat Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat dan merupakan habitat harimau sumatra dan badak sumatra.
Puncak Gunung Kerinci berada pada ketinggian 3.805 mdpl, di sini pengunjung dapat melihat di kejauhan membentang pemandangan indah Kota Jambi, Padang, dan Bengkulu. Bahkan Samudera Hindia yang luas dapat terlihat dengan jelas. Gunung Kerinci memiliki kawah seluas 400 x 120 meter dan berisi air yang berwarna hijau. Di sebelah timur terdapat danau Bento, rawa berair jernih tertinggi di Sumatera. Di belakangnya terdapat gunung tujuh dengan kawah yang sangat indah yang hampir tak tersentuh.
Gunung Kerinci merupakan gunung berapi bertipe stratovolcano yang masih aktif dan terakhir kali meletus pada tahun 2009.
30 maret 2018 kali kesekian tim TRAVELHOLLIC menjelajah puncak dari Pulau Sumatera ini, banyak cerita yang tak dapat saya sampaikan dalam perjalanan kali ini. mulai dari cuaca yang hujan selama pendakian, fisik peserta yang tidak semuanya bugar, sampai salah satu peserta yang drop di akhir perjalanan.

En route pour Kerinci !
Assez de temps passé en civilisation, il est temps de partir loin à une journée de mini bus sur des routes interminablement sinueuses. Direction Kerinci, le volcan actif le plus haut d’Indonésie et le sommet le plus haut de Sumatra (3805m). Bien différents de nos montagnes puisque situé au cœur d’un climat équatorial, son ascension est assez difficile et loin de la promenade du dimanche. Deux jours de grimpes quasiment seule dans une jungle dense pour finir sur la dernière partie dans un paysage plutôt lunaire entre roche volcanique, magma séché et émanation de sulfure !

Climbed the highest volcano with the best people back last year in December. The journey up and down the mountain was rough and thrilling but its all worth it. Seeing the world from the top kind of gives you another perspective of our world and how small we are. How many people can say they climbed a mountain? First mountain and definitely not last. Just go and climb. Remember to eat your diarrheao pills and don't climb with a screw in your foot.
