Mount Lofty Summit Trek Adelaide South Australia
Mount Lofty Trek. Its been two years since the last attempt and still as painful, but well worth the effort!!
The trek is around 7.5 Kms round trip starting from Waterfall Gully up to the Lofty Sumit. No Water taps along the way so if you plan on giving in a go, make sure you have a bottle of water with you.

Mount Lofty Botanic Garden - Adelaide, South Australia
Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is a spectacular hills garden located over 100 hectares on the on the eastern slopes of Mount Lofty in the Adelaide Hills east of Adelaide in South Australia.
The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden overlooking the Piccadilly Valley features displays of cool temperate plants, which thrive here. The collections in the garden come from various geographic regions such as South America, China, East Africa, New Zealand, South East Asia and North America.
The cooler, wetter location suits plants from temperate climates which are difficult to grow on the Adelaide Plains. Amongst the native Australian flora there are tree ferns, as well as exotic cultivated plants from cool climates including Rhododendron and Magnolia and the National Species Rose Collection.

Mount Lofty Summit - South Australia by Air
The Peak of Adelaide | Mount Lofty and Adelaide Botanic Gardens
I’m in Adelaide taking in some of the best natural sights and wildlife that Australia has to offer for the last part of my mid-semester break. My roommate En and I started our adventures in South Australia by checking out the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and hiking to the summit of Mount Lofty.
SUBSCRIBE FOR FRESH STUDENT TRAVEL VIDEOS EVERY TUESDAY ????????
My jam-packed mid-semester break continued with a trip to Adelaide, South Australia, to take in some of the most scenic natural sites and amazing wildlife that Australia has to offer. Sleep-deprived as I might have been, I headed off to the airport only a day after my last trip had ended to catch my flight.
After getting to Adelaide, En and I went for a walk around the Adelaide CBD before heading out to our first stop. While walking around we noticed that Adelaide is much calmer than that we’re used to in Melbourne, and I think that En really enjoyed the change of pace.
From the CBD we walked to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens for a relaxing afternoon. The gardens were surprisingly vast and seemed to have a ton of different natural sights packed into one small space.
One thing that really amazed me about the Adelaide Botanic Gardens was their Bicentennial Conservatory. Essentially they’ve built an indoor tropical rainforest in the middle of the city, so I was pretty surprised to find a rainforest when I was only expecting a couple of plants and some signs when I walked into the building.
After only one day I had gotten the impression that Adelaide is very focused on showcasing the amazing natural sights that are so easily accessible from the city, and really strives to maintain a city that looks great and has lots to do. Overall I thought that the city had an awesome, close-knit vibe despite its approximately 1.3 million people.
After a bit more exploring around the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and CBD, En and I went back to our hostel to prepare for what would be a much more active second day in South Australia.
On day 2 in Adelaide we went to the peak of Adelaide, Mount Lofty, to see some more of the beautiful nature around the city and get some amazing summit views. We started in the Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens, which although quite different from the gardens in the Adelaide CBD, were still really cool.
The gardens at Mount Lofty didn’t quite have as many attractions to see, but showcased lots of walking and hiking trails, along with a scenic man-made lake in the gully at the bottom of the garden. From the bottom of the gully in the botanic gardens we started our hike to the top of Mount Lofty.
We planned to go for a hike today since it was supposed to be sunny all day, so of course it started raining once we got onto the hiking trail. Although the rain did eventually pass, it left behind a series of rivers for us to cross over on our way to the top.
I didn’t manage crossing the rivers very well at all, and unfortunately drenched one of my feet after hesitantly looking for a way to cross one particularly long rain river. Needless to say that made the rest of the hike a little but more uncomfortable, but still very much worth it.
Eventually we got to the main trail, and from there the rest of our hike was straight uphill to the summit (luckily with no more rivers). In total the hike from the bottom of the gardens to the summit was about 7kms and took at least 2 to 3 hours, so needless to say it made for a very fun and full day.
The view of the city from the Mount Lofty summit was absolutely gorgeous. Hiking up Mount Lofty should definitely be near the top of your list of things to do in Adelaide.
Make sure to subscribe because next Tuesday I’m still in Adelaide and am going to give you an up close and personal encounter with some rare Australian wildlife that you won’t want to miss!

Snow falling at MtLofty, Adelaide Hills, South Australia, 2015
A few short vids i took of the snow that fell on the morning of 11 July 2015. Videos were taken in the Adelaide Hills next to the Mount Lofty towers which is a few hundred metres down the road from the summit lookout at approx. 8:55am. Snowfall in Adelaide is fairly rare here and was the first time ive ever seen snow. The snow was as a result of a large cold front that swept across the southern parts of Australia...
