Mount Merbabu (Indonesian: Gunung Merbabu) is a dormant stratovolcano in Central Java province on the Indonesian island of Java. The name Merbabu could be loosely translated as 'Mountain of Ash' from the Javanese combined words; Meru means mountain and awu or abu means ash.
The active volcano Mount Merapi is directly adjacent on its south-east side, while the city of Salatiga is located on its northern foothills. A 1,500m high broad saddle lies between Merbabu and Merapi,[2] the site of the village of Selo, Java and highly fertile[citation needed] farming land.
There are two peaks; Syarif (3,119 m) and Kenteng Songo (3,145 m). Three U-shaped radial valleys extend from the Kenteng Songo summit in northwesterly, northeastly and southeastly directions.

Etymologically, merbabu is derived from the combination of the words Meru (mountain) and gray (gray). The new name appears in the records of the Netherlands.
This mountain has erupted in 1560 and 1797. It was also reported in 1570 had erupted, but has not made a confirmation and further research. Merbabu mountain peak is at an altitude of 3,145 meters above sea level.
Merbabu have Dipterokarp Forest Hill neighborhood, Dipterokarp Forest Upper Montane Forests, and Ericaceous forest or mountain forests.

Terdapat 2 puncak yakni puncak syarif (3119m) dan puncak kenteng songo (3145m) . pendakian gunung merbabu kali ini memalui selatan yaitu jalur selo boyolali . Selama perjalanan kita dapat menikmati pemandangan yang sangat indah, dan sampai di puncak kita serasa di atas awan dan banyak gunung yang akan terlihat dari puncak gunung merbabu di antaranya yaitu yaitu gunung merapi, gunung andong, gunung temoloyo, gunung ungaran.

Di camp ini air yang diambil dapat langsung diminum tanpa dipanaskan terlebih dahulu karena sumber air ini terdapat diketinggian 1800an mdpl.

Perjalanan ke gunung merbabu yang terletak secara geografis pada 7,5° LS dan 110,4° BT dengan ketinggian 3.142 mdpl, Terdapat 2 buah puncak yakni puncak Syarif (3119m) dan puncak Kenteng Songo (3142m). Puncak Gn.Merbabu dapat ditempuh dari Cunthel, Thekelan, (Kopeng / Salatiga) Wekas (Kaponan / Magelang) atau dari selo (Boyolali). Perjalanan akan sangat menarik bila Anda berangkat dari jalur Utara (Wekas, Cunthel, Thekelan) turun kembali lewat jalur selatan (Selo). Pemandangan yang sangat indah dapat disaksikan disepanjang perjalanan tersebut, banyak terdapat gunung disekitar gunung Merbabu, diantaranya Gn. Merapi, Gn.Telomoyo, Gn.Ungaran. Gunung Merbabu ini membentuk garis deretan gunung berapi ke arah utara Merapi - Merbabu - Telomoyo - Ungaran.
