Mount Mitchell & Gap Creek Falls track QLD Australia
Mount Mitchell track:-(Class 4)
DANGER! Sheer cliff edges. Remain on the track, stay behind fences, away from cliff edges.
Distance: 10.2km return
Time: Allow about 3hr walking time
A graded walking track to the twin peaks of Mount Mitchell begins on the southern side of the Cunningham Highway. Take care when crossing the highway or preferably park on the southern side of the highway. Rainforest and open eucalypt forest will be encountered on this track, which ends on a knife-edge ridge above a sheer cliff on the east peak of Mount Mitchell (1175m above sea level). This peak is known as 'Cooyinnirra' to the Aboriginal people. Care must be taken at the cliff edge.
Gap Creek Falls track:- (Class 4)
Distance: 9.8km return
Time: Allow about 6hr walking time
The best time to see the falls is soon after rain, as there is little water over the 100m drop in dry weather. The track, mostly through open eucalypt forests, starts at The Crest car park via the stairs leading to the Fassifern Valley lookout. Descend the ridge below Mount Cordeaux to the top of the falls. The return trip is uphill and can be very tiring in hot weather. This track requires a high level of fitness and is not recommended for older or very young people or those in poor health.
Hiking to the Summit of Mt Mitchell in Queensland.
Mt Mitchell is located at Cunninghams Gap and is a great walk that is close to Brisbane.
Park in the car park located at the top of Cunninghams Gap and you have the choice of doing not only Mt Mitchell, but the same car pk is used for Mt Cordeaux (Both Brilliant walks).
Mt Mitchell is just over 10km in total and takes approx an hour and a half to reach the summit.
Weather can change quickly at the top, so bring a jacket as you can easily be surrounded by clouds.
Its a perfect spot to have lunch and take in the view in almost every direction.
There is lots of wildlife, from Rock Wallabies to snakes and lizards and birdlife.
Thanks for watching.

Mount Mitchell Trail, Main Range National Park Queensland
Last weekend we hiked up the Mount Mitchell trail.
It took us an hour and a half's drive from Brisbane to the car park at Cunningham's Gap to start the hike. It was a cool five degree's as we got kitted up.
From there it was about 3 hours up and back on a well maintained trail. This included plenty of time at the summit to chill out and take in the expansive 360 degree views.
Most of the walk involved a nice steady incline, nothing too strenuous. Towards the end there were a series of steps that were enough to really work the legs. The summit is a very small rocky patch with a number of and sheer cliffs at its edge.
It was such worthwhile hike, a great way to begin the day.

TRAVEL TIME: 2 hours up and 1 hour down
This was my first ever solo hike and it was a gorgeous one for a raining day. The start was horrific as it took me 1 hour to find the right car park and then I walked 20 minutes of the Rain Forest Circuit which was on the wrong side of the road and not even Mt Mitchell. So for all of you who are keen to do this walk enter 'Crest Car Park (Tregony, QLD)' into your map destination and once parked your car you will have to cross the highway to begin your walk up Mt Mitchell. Even though the entire area was covered up with fog and pouring rain this track has proven to be beautiful in whatever weather conditions. Also if you need to fuel up I would suggest the service station called Fisherpark Truckstop which is only a few kms up the hill. Dirt cheap fuel prices, toilets, diner and brilliant customer service.
DO NOT FORGET THE FOLLOWING:
- Bushmans spray, salt and pocket knife (leaches)
- Towel and dry clothes (if raining)
- Head torch
HAPPY HIKING

HIKING Australia's Tabletop mountain / QLD
Tabletop mountain is on the edge of Toowoomba and provides vast views of the Lockyer Valley. The climb itself can be quite demanding for some, there are a lot of large steps over the camel's hump and a scramble just before the summit. There is a circuit all the way around the top of the mountain.

Gilbert's Dome - central Queensland mountain climb
Gilbert's Dome is famous for being named after John Gilbert. He was a naturalist who accompanied Ludwig Leichhardt on his fateful expedition to the Gulf of Carpentaria, 1845. It is a remarkable mountain in central Queensland that is rarely climbed. Join James, Sherry, Rebecca, Roger, Rob & Ken on this early morning climb, beside clear bubbling streams wriggling with fish, golden orb spiders, and up to the summit of Gilbert's Dome.
