Troodos is the largest mountain range in Cyprus, located in roughly the center of the island. Troodos' highest peak is Mount Olympus at 1,952 meters, which hosts four ski slopes. The Troodos mountain range stretches across most of the western side of Cyprus. There are many famous mountain resorts, Byzantine monasteries and churches on mountain peaks, and nestling in its valleys and picturesque mountains are villages clinging to terraced hill slopes. The area has been known since antiquity for its mines, which for centuries supplied copper to the entire Mediterranean. In the Byzantine period it became a great centre of Byzantine art, as churches and monasteries were built in the mountains, away from the threatened coastline.

January 2020 - this is a trip to the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus - in search of snow - Mount Olympus at 1.950m
Olympus, or Chionistra, (Greek: Όλυμπος or Greek: Χιονίστρα) at 1,952 metres (6,404 ft), is the highest point in Cyprus. It is located in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus. Mount Olympus peak and the Troodos Square fall under the territory of Platres in Limassol District. A British long range radar currently operates at Mount Olympus' peak.
Storyline: “Oh yes! In Cyprus you can enjoy the sun during Summer but also go skying in the mountains during Winter or just have a nice walk in this magical wintery landscape! For this occasion we brought the action camera and the mobile phone to show you what it’s like to travel up there and see the environment “
* Roads were very clean, last km’s were getting icy though, we installed snow chains. You can see this back in a few fragments in this film. Sorry but safety first!
* Lesson: do not use snow chains if you want smooth video footage. But you might be taking a lot of risk. 4WD is not always sufficient.
* Lesson: do use snow chains - especially the final km’s up the hill - if you want to prevent your car from sliding backwards to the cars behind you or mess something up in front of you.

Having breakfast in a cafe on mount olympus near the summit. Perfect day in our lives. This was hands-down my favourite place, not only in Cyprus, but any where. It gave me a feeling of serenity. It's one of those special places you can't put your finger on why it feels so nice being in this place.

Pedoulas is a village in the Nicosia District of Cyprus, located at an altitude of 1100m in the Troodos Mountains. It is known for its 12 churches, varying from a 15th-century chapel to a 1930's cathedral. The Church of Holy Cross is the main church of the community. Its construction began in 1933 and completed in 1935.

Troodos Mountains are located in the center of the island of Cyprus. The highest peak is snow-covered Mount Olympus (also spelled Mount Olympos) at 1,952 meters above sea level. There are various Byzantine churches and monasteries in the region, including the most well-known Kykkos Monastery. Troodos Mountains are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and definitely worth visiting.
In this fourth part of my Cyprus Road Trip VLOG series, join me as I discover Mount Olympus, the High Cross and the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross above Pedoulas village, Kykkos Monastery and the beautiful Cedar Valley. The drive through Cedar Valley was one of the most breathtaking road trips I have ever done and the video footage doesn't do this epic part of the island any justice.

All the stars are in alignment as the fickle fates of fortune befall Matt. Naturally the isolation of camping and hiking makes the problem worse in the Troodos Mountains snow.

Join me on a drive up 1 of the most beautiful roads i have ever seen to the summit of Mount Olympus the highest point in Cyprus.
It is located in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus. Mount Olympus peak and the Troodos Square fall under the territory of Platres in Limassol District. A British long range radar currently operates at Mount Olympus' peak. The Mount Olympus Ski resort consists of the Sun Valley and North Face areas. Each area has its own chairlifts and runs.
