TLTV Ep 80 - Mount Pleasant Cemetery (Part 1)
This is the first of a two-part look at the old section of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, the most famous and one of the oldest cemeteries in The GTA. In November 1876, Mount Pleasant Cemetery opened. It was located on the distant outskirts of Toronto and had more than twelve miles (19km) of carriage drives along rolling hills and blue lakes filled with ducks and swans. With the growth of the GTA since then, the cemetery is now located in the centre of the city of Toronto. The cemetery still has many miles of walking paths, interspersed with fountains, statues, botanical gardens, and rare and distinct trees. It is the final resting place of more than 168,000 persons, including heroic veterans, medical pioneers, musicians, powerful business people, politicians, clergymen, sports luminaries, and more. Among those whose graves can be found here are: Frederick Banting & Charles Best (co-discoverers of Insulin), Glenn Gould (pianist & composer), Timothy Eaton and Robert Simpson (department store magnates), Ted Rogers (founder of Rogers Communications), William Lyon Mackenzie King (one of Canada's greatest Prime Ministers, leading the nation through World War II), 5 Premiers of Ontario, 5 Lieutenant Governors of Ontario, 6 Mayors of Toronto, and many more. The old section of the cemetery is filled with rolling hills, winding roads, small surprising treasures, and large imposing monuments to greatness ... let's have a look around during an early winter afternoon.
Mount Pleasant Cemetery Documentary
Mount Pleasant Cemetery is a cemetery located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
In the early 19th century, the only authorized cemeteries within the city of Toronto (then known as York) were limited to the members of either the Roman Catholic Church or the Church of England. Deceased citizens who did not belong to either of these Christian denominations had no choice but to find burial arrangements outside of the city. In 1873, a new cemetery available to all citizens was conceived. Originally a 200-acre (0.81 km2) farm, on the far outskirts of Toronto, Mount Pleasant Cemetery opened on November 4, 1876 with more than twelve miles (19 km) of carriage drives along rolling hills and ponds. Mount Pleasant Road was later constructed to pass through the centre of the cemetery and is named after this cemetery. With the growth in population, today the cemetery is located in the centre of the city. While the watercourses have since been filled in, the cemetery still has many miles of walking paths, interspersed with fountains, statues, botanical gardens, and rare and distinct trees.
The cemetery also has remains from Toronto Potter's Field, an early burial grounds that closed in 1855 between 1870s to 1881.[1]
As the final resting place of more than 168,000 persons, Mount Pleasant Cemetery contains remarkable architecture amongst its many monuments. The cemetery was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2000.[2][3]

TLTV Ep 81 - Mount Pleasant Cemetery (Part 2)
In this second half of a two-part look at the old section of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, we'll get a look at more of the interesting monuments and sculptures lining the grounds. We'll see a cup of coffee and can of pop left for someone's late parent, get a glimpse of some flowers that were left at some graves, and visit the resting place of a very famous Canadian. William Lyon Mackenzie King was one of Canada's longest serving Prime Ministers, including during World War II. He passed away in 1950, but his grave is still adorned with flowers, including a single pink rose on top. We'll finish off with a look at the tunnel we will take to explore the new section of the cemetery in a future edition of TLTV.

Poem, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, Ont. Canada 1978-R 2017.
As a war resister, Vietnam War, I drifted along for months without shelter, a car broken down, hitchhiking up and down Ontario from the tobacco fields to Ottawa and back to Toronto waiting during a postal strike about 1971, for my landed immigrant status to work legally in Canada. For a short while I drifted into Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, in Toronto, Ont., Canada and wrote this poem.

MOUNT PLEASANT CEMETERY GHOST
Date of Investigation -- October 28 2010
Location - 375 Mount Pleasant Rd (Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto Ontario Canada)
Background -- Mount Pleasant Cemetery was opened in 1876. There are no well known reports of apparitions or other paranormal phenomenon reported at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
On August 2 2010, Demetrius made a casual visit to Mount Pleasant Cemetery. From hundreds of photos taken that day, one picture yielded an unusual image. What appears to be a face can be seen reflecting on the grave stone of Robert Pollock & Margaret Cochrane Pollock. Some third party opinions suggested that the face seems to actually be two faces overlapping one another. A few people could see a side profile of a balding man wearing spectacles or sunglasses, while others said they could see a skull-like face wearing an eye-patch. This provokes the question whether or not the image wasn't simply an optical delusion based on what people wanted to see. Both Marcio and Demetrius couldn't rule out this possibility. However, despite differing opinions, a facial image was still identified by...

Over-The-Top Cemetery Monument * Money Can't Buy Good Taste!
I was walking by Mount Pleasant Cemetery recently and I noticed a crazy, over-the-top monument, so I had to check it out. Turns out it belongs to one of Toronto's better know citizens, Steve Stavro who owned Know Hill Farms supermarkets and was also a Chairman at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.
This dude had some serious cash and a huge ego to match, so it seems. I got a chuckle from the tacky monument. I guess it just goes to show, that you can have all the money in the world but you can't buy good taste!
This monument has a prime location in Toronto's most exclusive cemetery, Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
