Qassioun Mountain, Syria 2010
Damascus (Arabic: دِمَشقُ, Dimashq, commonly known as الشام ash-Shām also known as the City of Jasmin Arabic: مدينة الياسمين) is the capital and largest city of Syria as well as one of the country's 14 governorates. The Damascus Governorate is ruled by a governor appointed by the Minister of Interior. In addition to being widely known as the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, Damascus is a major cultural and religious center of the Levant.
Currently, the city has an estimated population of about 1,669,000. Unofficial estimates often assume a much larger population. Located in southwestern Syria, it is the center of a large metropolitan area of four million people.[citation needed] Geographically embedded on the eastern foothills of the Anti-Lebanon mountain range 80 km (50 mi) inland from the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea on a plateau 680 metres (2,200 ft) above sea-level. Damascus experiences a semi-arid climate due to the rain shadow effect. The Barada River flows through Damascus.
First settled in the 2nd millennium BC, it was chosen as the capital of the Umayyad Caliphate from 661-750. After the victory of the Abbasid dynasty, the seat of Islamic power was moved to Baghdad. Damascus saw a political decline throughout the Abbasid era, only to regain significant importance in the Ayyubid and Mamluk periods. During Ottoman rule, the city decayed completely while maintaining a certain cultural prestige. Today, it is the seat of the central government and all of the government ministries. Damascus was chosen as the 2008 Arab Capital of Culture.

View of Damascus from Jebel Qasiyoun
A late evening view of central and southern areas of Damascus, the capital of Syria, taken from near the top of Mount Qasiyoun.
The call to prayer had just echoed around the whole city as the sun had set which still illuminated the western sky and the moon had risen. Later that night there was a moon eclipse which was fully visible from Damascus.
This mountain is fully accessible by road.
Filmed in June 2011 when the supposed anti-government protests were thought to be bringing the country to a standstill. However, the capital did not witness a single march - in fact towards the end of our stay we saw a pro-government rally occurring in the centre of Damascus. Whether this may have been to do with the authority, I cannot confirm, so any opinion on this matter is exactly that - an opinion.

Israeli rockets strike Mount Qasioun (The Cave of Blood) in Syria
On the slopes of Jabal Qasiun is a cave steeped in legend. It is said to have been inhabited at one point by the first man Adam; and there are various stories told about Ibrāhīm (Abraham), and 'Īsā (Jesus) also having prayed in it. It is mentioned however in Medieval Arab history books as having been the place where Qābīl (Cain) killed Hābīl (Abel). It was known for hundreds of years as a place where prayers were immediately accepted, and especially in times of drought rulers of Damascus would climb to cave and pray for rain. Because of the murder that took place there, claimed to be the first murder ever in the world, it is called Maghārat al-Dam (The Cave of Blood).

20180104 Mount Qasioun Rif Dimashq - INFO: CONTENT IS ABOUT AN INCIDENT
The content in this video is a assessment on events happened on the day as mentioned in the title.
Assessment has nothing to do with politics but with research within an certain context. That may be humanitarian or in the context of human rights, international (treaty) laws, international judiciary, etc.
You have to watch this video in these contexts.
Doing assessment takes time as one single video of a certain date doesn't tell much. You need several other videos of the same issue and from the same date before having any idea what the issue stands for, or what it means or what effect it has in other regions in Syria.
Please, take note that there are cases were only one video could be documented
The channel were this video is posted will be updated once a month only.
There's also a timeline available that focuses on the entire history, so from the uprising in 2011 to the present time of today.
