Mount Remarkable Summit Hike

Mount Remarkable is a well known peak in the Southern Flinders Ranges in South Australia. It is approximately 3 hours from Adelaide and at 995 metres above sea level is the highest peak in that particular part of the range which is collectively known as Mount Remarkable National Park. There are a number of popular hikes in the area but the summit hike is one of the favourites. It can be accessed from the eastern side starting from the small township of Melrose at the War Memorial Monument. From there it's a round trip of 12.2 kilometres to the summit and back. Great views of the Wilochra Plain can be seen during the hike.

This was our first time starting a hike from Melrose. We eventually found the entrance to the Summit Hike and set off on what we were expecting to be a 12.5km Hike. By the time we got back we had both reached 15km’s on our Apple watches.

We took the north route up to the summit and were greeted to some wonderful views along the way. The climb to the summit was about 6.5km and featured a nice variety of terrain.

The summit itself was a bit of a disappointment as tree coverage blocks most of the view. The views on the way up are definitely better.

We then went down via the south route which had a bit more tree coverage. There were still some really nice views.

We finished in about 4 hours and set off to the local pub for lunch. A great meal to end a great hike!

Mount Remarkable Trail Run

18km loop trail loop out the back of Mount Remarkable in Melrose South Australia. All across private land, it covers mostly grazing land with some amazing views over Booleroo and the surrounding area.

Mambray Creek Campground - Mount Remarkable National Park

The Mambray Creek campground is one of two drive-in camping areas in the Mount Remarkable National Park. This is a large campground with 54 sites to choose from. There are hot showers, flushing toilets and water available. There are also lots of walking tracks throughout the National Park and plenty of wildlife.

Just a little edit I made from my two months spent in oz! Hung out at in Melrose for most of the time I was down unda, the people at Over The Edge Bikes were very amazing. . Bridle Track Mt Remarkable National Park

This is a track that takes you from Melrose at the base of Mt Remarkable to the Port Augusta Highway. This is the first 'off road' for the trip and a nice appertizer of some of the views we would get to see on the way.

Mount Remarkable National Park is best-known for its rugged mountain ranges, dramatic gorges, steep vegetated valleys and exposed red quartzite cliffs, with some of the landscape dating back 800 million years.
