Kuching 5 - Mount Santubong

Climbing Mount Santubong was our biggest challenge in Sarawak. Mount Santubong is located about 35 km north of Kuching. It is 810 meters high. Including breaks going up and down took us 7 hours. It was quite an exhausting jungle climbing tour but the feeling of success was worth every minute.

The Climb to mount Santubong, Kuching, Sarawak

I conquer mount Santubong with a record of 2 1/2 hours, not bad for a person with no regular exercise.

I start my journey at Bukit Puteri which is the shorter route to the mount. a lot of ladder and ropes climbing. The first part of the trek you need a lot of energy, use to walk a lot, when reaching the send part of the climb, use a lot of your body muscle for all the climbs.

Fun trip, will definitely go back again!!!

Mount Santubong (Malay: Gunung Santubong) is a mountain in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It is located about 35 km north of the state capital Kuching.

Mount Santubong is about 810 meters above sea level, taking about 3 to 4 hours to reach the summit and took almost the same time descending.

In the morning we went from Kuching under mount Santubong by bus. We found out that only one guy went to the summit before us. We were going uphill all the time. We enjoyed few nice views on the way to the summit of Santubong. Then more interesting part became. We had to climb on rope ladders while some of the ladders didn´t seem like they are very safe. We all got to the summit where there was really nice view at the Kuching city. On the way down from the mount Santubong it started raining a bit which didn´t help but we managed to get down and to the waterfalls where I filmed some small frogs. Then we went to Damai.

Mount Santubong Extreme 7 Summits Challenge, Kuching Sarawak.

The longest and toughest hike in Mount Santubong.

Hi, my name is Ian Vong. I am a avid hiker who enjoys the challenging and breathtaking trips in Borneo.

Mount Santubong is one of my favourite places to hike. From August 2017 until July 2018, I trekked and climbed a total of 45 times in order to explore the entire mountain range. The famous Mount Santubong summit 1( 810m) is the prime attractions for both locals and foreign trekkers. If you were to view from the side of the mountain there are 7 summits, with elevation ranging 450m to 850m above sea level.

My up coming mission is to climb summit 1 and trek along the mountain range, all the way to the end of the peninsula where Tanjung Sipang Lighthouse is located, and then back to Camp Permai via West Coast. This challenge has never been done before, it will take 36 to 40 hours to complete. The estimated length of the trail is 40 km. I will be leading a small group comprising of 5 to 10 experienced hikers, we will hike as a team to complete the challenge.

I would also like to promote the importance of hiking etiquette :

- LEAVE NO TRACE BUT FOOTPRINTS
- TAKE NOTHING BUT PICTURES
- KILL NOTHING BUT TIME

I love nature and I would like to do something meaningful by raising fund for the environment. If everyone were to participate and contribute a little, we can all save our environment.
