UK Coastguard is currently assisting with a large scale incident involving up to 70 people in the Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland.
The MOD have confirmed 40 army cadets aged between 12-17 have gotten into difficulty whilst camping
PSNI and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service contacted UK Coastguard just before 12pm today (2 August) requesting assistance after receiving several reports that a large number of people were in difficulty after being caught out in inclement weather. Initial reports suggest that all members of the group are accounted for, however four people may be suffering from exposure.
Newcastle, Bangor and Kilkeel Coastguard Rescue Teams, and the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopters based at Caernarfon and Prestwick are on scene. Also on scene is the Irish Coastguard Rescue 116 helicopter, Mourne Mountain Rescue Team, PSNI and NI Ambulance Service. The three helicopters are currently situated at Donard Park due to poor weather conditions and will support casualty evacuation as further information comes in.
The incident is still ongoing

Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland
The Mourne Mountains are the highest and most dramatic mountain range in Northern Ireland, its summits crowned by granite tors. The mountains themselves are criss-crossed by an unrivalled network of paths and tracks. The area was voted the ‘Best Walking Destination’ in Northern Ireland in WalkNI's inaugural awards. The routes providie enthusiastic walkers with incredible opportunities for exploration. The Mournes are divided into 2 very distinctive areas – the Eastern or ‘High’ Mournes and the Western or ‘Low’ Mournes. Any newcomer to the Mournes will be simply amazed at the variety of landscapes that can be encountered within such a confined geographical area.

Route Description
From the Carrick Little car park, follow a clear, stony track that rises gently between the fields. Note the boulder walls alongside, and the high mountains around the distant head of Annalong Valley. Cross a stone step stile beside an iron gate and turn left to follow the Mourne Wall uphill.
The wall rises steeply on the rugged slopes of Slieve Binnian, but it is an obvious line to follow almost all the way to the summit. There is a break when the wall runs into a bare face of granite, and before this point you should drift to the right and aim for a notch in the top of the mountain. Going all the way to the summit at 2449ft (747m) involves using your hands and taking care on the rock.
The reward is an exceedingly fine panorama of the surrounding mountain. In clear weather it's possible to see the Isle of Man out to sea and the Wicklow Mountains beyond Dublin. Pick your way carefully around the base of the Summit Tor and continue walking along the ridge of the Mountain. You cross a broken wall and follow a clear path past the Back Castles.
These are a handful of wrinkly little tors that you don't have to grapple with. Simply enjoy the views as you walk past them. The North Tor is a monstrous outcrop of granite towards the end of the crest, and the path passes it on the left side. The ground slopes away more steeply as the path wanders through the heather, past boulders and outcrops of granite on the way down to a prominent gap - the col between Slieve Lamagan and Slieve Binnian.
At the col turn right and follow a clear path downhill. This passes close to the Blue Lough and by keeping right at junctions with other paths, you'll be led down to a clear track passing a corner of Annalong Wood. Simply follow the track alongside the Forest fence and return to the iron gate in the Mourne Wall. Cross the wall using the stile and follow the track back to Carrick Little car park.
Please be aware - although, there are numerous walking routes in the Mournes, the majority of these popular walks are not formally designated public rights of way. Most routes have developed over time due to traditional use. Below 600 feet (180m) most land is privately owned and is farmed or grazed. Many of the traditional access routes cross this land or pass along farm lanes and quarry tracks. Access is only available therefore through the tolerance and goodwill of the landowners. Walkers are advised to respect that they may be walking on private land and are encouraged to make themselves aware of and adhere to the principles of Leave No Trace.

SUMMARY
=======
National parks are a devolved matter with each of the countries of the United Kingdom having its own policies and arrangements. Counted together, the United Kingdom has fifteen national parks with ten in England, three in Wales and two in Scotland. These parks are not truly national parks according to the internationally accepted standard of the IUCN but they are areas of outstanding landscape where habitation and commercial activities are restricted.
There are currently no national parks in Northern Ireland though there are controversial moves to establish one in the Mourne Mountains. If established, it would stretch from Carlingford Lough to Newcastle and Slieve Croob. Though it might create jobs in tourism, there are fears that it would drive up the area's cost of living.
All fifteen national parks share two statutory purposes; To conserve and enhance the natural and cultural heritage of the area, and to promote understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the national park by the public. The Scottish national parks have two further statutory purposes; To promote sustainable use of the natural resources of the area, and to promote sustainable economic and social development of the area’s communities.
The Broads was not established as a national park, but was described at the time as having a 'status equivalent to that of a national park'. It has since adopted the title 'national park' and is a member of the UK national parks family, with the same level of landscape protection and an additional statutory purpose; to protect the interests of navigation. All fifteen national parks in the UK are members of the Association of National Park Authorities (ANPA), which works to promote the UK national parks family and to facilitate training and development between staff and members of all parks.Beginning in 2014 there was a movement to establish the Greater London area as a kind of national park. For details of the established national parks, see:

The lads had to think on their toes, having forgotten the tent pegs necessary to secure the tarp they had to use rocks instead.
The expedition started at meelmore lodge then camped at the saddle between slieve Lough shanagh and carn mountain.

Snow and ice warnings across Britain have been extended to tomorrow as millions of Brits braved treacherous journeys to get into work on 'Black Monday'.
Roads, railways and airports were plunged into chaos yesterday following a 'snow bomb' which blanketed the country before turning to ice in freezing overnight temperatures.
Today, more than a thousand schools were shut and dozens of flights have been cancelled at airports including Heathrow and Birmingham. According to reports, an estimated 50,000 British Airways travellers have been left stranded.
Forecasters warned there was no immediate let up with temperatures tipped to plummet to -15C in some areas of the country tonight, which would mark the coldest night of the year so far and lead to widespread frost tomorrow.
Highways England advised drivers across London, the Midlands and the North to check local forecasts before heading out this morning while thousands of homes have been left without power.
