Moustache Brothers in Mandalay (Myanmar)
The Moustache Brothers are a comedic trio from Mandalay, Burma known for live performances that combine screwball comedy, classic Burmese dance, and sharply satirical criticism of the totalitarian Burmese military regime.
The Moustache Brothers is composed of U Par Par Lay, U Lu Zaw, and Lu Maw. Lay and Zaw served almost six years of a sentence to seven years in labour camp for criticizing the government in a performance at the home of Aung San Suu Kyi in Rangoon in 1996. Two National League for Democracy members who had arranged the performance were also arrested and served the same time. Amnesty International led a campaign for their release, and negotiations by Suu Kyi are suspected of having contributed to their release. As part of the conditions for their release and the fact that they are under house arrest regulations, they are now allowed to perform only for foreigners, within the garage of their Mandalay house.
U Par Par Lay was arrested on September 25, 2007 as part of the crackdown on the anti-government protests.[1] As of October 28, 2007, Par Par Lay's whereabouts were unknown.[2]
Par Par Lay was released on November 1, 2007 after 36 days in prison and is performing again with his family and troupe in Mandalay.

The Moustache Brothers in Mandalay/Myanmar
One example: In Mandalay/Myanmar I met three famous comedians Par Par Lay, Lu Zaw und Lu Maw from Moustache Brothers. They are performing at their home a sort ofcomedy, classical Burmese dance and are critizizing the totalitarian Burmese military regime, which is completly forbidden in Myanmar. They have been in prison a lot of times and are not stopping in fighting and performing for democracy and keeping on informing tourists and locals about the real situation in Myanmar (read more about The Moustache Brothers on Wikipedia).
When I was interviewing them, they told me, that Social Media like Blogs, YouTube, Flickr are helping them to survive and helping to change the situation. As long as we are talking about them, as long as we are are sharing insights and news about them, they can go on.

The Moustache Brothers are a group of comedians that oppose the brutal government in Myanmar (Burma / Birma). Though they have been in Jail and in Labour Camp several Times, they are still alive and kicking.
They need the international public to know about them, to be save form punishment by the government. But most of all, they need YOU to know about the horrible abuse and crimes the Myanmar government forces on the innocent people in this country.
Spread the word and end the pain!

part of Moustache Brothers show @ Mandalay, Myanmar
The Moustache Brothers (Par Par Lay, Lu Zaw, and Lu Maw - on the video) are a trio of comedians dissidents that are known for their fight against the totalitarian Burmese military regime. They were arrested several times, because of their live performances, one of them was at home of San Suu Kyi (Nobel Peace Prize in 1991) . The actual show is a mix of jokes, satirical criticism about the regime, and traditional Burmese dances, but all this on a very amateur way! Nowadays they perform all nights in their house´s garage in Mandalay, but are only allowed to perform to foreigns.
The cause is honorable, but the show is at least...memorable :)
