Moxi is at the foot of Hailuogou National (Glacier) Park -- also called Conch Valley -- set at 2,000 meters/6,651 feet. Settled into the Ice Mountain Hotel...our original hotel had Chinese V.I.P.'s staying there and when V.I.P.'s occupy anything, no foreigners are allowed. We'd enter the park tomorrow...

Beautiful Hailuogou Glacier Park
Hailuogou Glacier is located in Luding county, Garze Tibetan autonomous region. Hailuogou is the world’s lowest elevation in the same latitude; it has the features of strong activity and the most complete glacial geomorphology. The end of glacier stretch into forest zone for 6 km, forming scenery of glacier is in symbiosis with virgin forest.

瀘定橋(去程) Luding Chain Bridge (China)
瀘定橋是一座懸索橋,跨度為101.6米,寬度為2.8米,底部距離枯水時的水面約14.5米.橋由13條鐵索組成,其中9條為底索,索間距離33厘米,上鋪橫木板,橫木板上再鋪八道縱木板作為橋面.另外4條鐵索則作為行人的扶欄.鐵索每根長127.45米,重約2.5噸,有碗口粗細,由800-900個扁環扣鏈而成.

Little Moxi still had a few more surprises for us. A hostel, small church from the 1920's (the same Church that owned the house Mao commandeered when he passed through Moxi on his Long March) and wonderful fields.
There is an abundance of hotels (building more every day), restaurants and shops catering to the many visitors to Hailuogou Glacier Park. Moxi turned out to be a very pleasant three-day visit but it was time to get on the road, one more time and head to Chengdu with its 11 million residents.

河岸邊山坡上的古建築是座歷史悠久的觀音閣,觀音閣建於1702年，原名為觀音堂,1706年康熙皇帝親筆改名為“觀音閣”,正懸掛著“觀音閣”的匾額就是他的筆跡.紅軍飛奪瀘定橋時,是紅軍的“飛奪瀘定橋點指揮部”和炮臺,機槍陣地,突擊隊過橋時的掩護點即在這裡.登上參觀更可俯瞰整個瀘定城.

瀘定橋所在的地區,是四川通往西康,西藏地區的交通要道,來往的商旅甚多.在未建橋之前,人們大都依靠竹索,藤索或附近的三個渡口渡過大渡河,但因為水流湍急,過河十分不易.為了加強與康藏地區的聯繫,清政府決定在河谷狹窄,地勢低平,水流較緩的瀘定城西建造懸索橋樑.瀘定橋於康熙四十四年（1705年）動工,次年竣工.因為是康熙帝御批建造的,因此它又叫做「皇橋」.而民間則稱之為「鐵索橋」.橋建成後,為保證安全,每天僅允許定時通行並限制同時過橋的人數.

Hailuogou (Conch Gully) National Glacier Forest Park is located on the eastern side of Gonggar Mountain in Luding County of Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze, Sichuan Province. It is 319 km from Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province and 105 km from Kangding, where administrative organs of the Garze Autonomous Prefecture are located. Glaciers in Hailuogou are typical modern marine glaciers, which are rarely found either in low-latitude places or at low altitude. Its lowest point is only 2,850 meters above sea level.The park boasts many geographic attractions, including ancient glaciers, grand glacier cascade, virgin forests, wild animals and hot springs, etc.
Glaciers
Glaciers cover 31 square kilometers of the Conch Gully. Classified as Modern Glacier, they came into being 16 million years ago. The Grand Glacier Cascade -- 1,000 meters in height and 1,000 meters in width -- is the only one in the world. Its 6 km glacier tongue penetrates into the virgin forest, forming a rare natural landscape with the blend of glacier and forest.
