Juma Masjid [Kottayam,Kerala,India]
Thazhathangady Juma Masjid is a mosque situated in Thazhathangady, one of the Heritage Zones of Kerala, India, near the town of Kottayam. It is one of the oldest mosques in India and is more than 1000 years old. It is famous for its richness of architecture, wood carvings and the beauty. Southern half of it is demolished and extended with iron pillars, aluminium sheets and minars in 2012. This mosque is situated on the banks of the Meenachil river. Its Architecture Style is unique and carving on wooden ceilings and pillars are just spectacular. Having A Hauz for ablution and this is a well maintained Mosque as worship is observed regularly. Southern portion is renovated and two Minarets are also added in 2012. Visitors are allowed except the prayers timing. Visitors may enjoy the taste of Kerala in various famous restaurants like Kane, Basant etc at Baker's Junction. Nearby attractions are Mozart Art Gallery and Thirunakkara Mahadeva temple which can be accessed easily from this heritage of Kerala.
