Salzburg: Mozart's Birthplace and House [Romanza from Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K.467]
A Musical Tour of the City of Mozart
With music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Chapter IV
In 1747 Leopold Mozart married and with his wife rented third-floor rooms from Johann Lorenz Hagenauer at No. 9 Getreidegasse. It was here that their seven children were born, the two surviving Maria Anna in 1751 and Wolfgang Amadeus in 1756. The family lived in these very modest quarters until 1773, and during their tour to Paris and London from 1763 to 1766, we learn much of their journey from letters Leopold Mozart wrote to his landlord. The apartment is now a museum preserving family portraits and instruments belonging to Mozart. The former include the unfinished portrait of Mozart painted by his brother-in-law Joseph Lange in 1789, with paintings of Mozart as a child. The instruments include Mozart's Anton Walter fortepiano, bought and used in Vienna, his clavichord, and a violin from his childhood, with a later concert instrument. In 1773 the family moved to the present No. 8 Makartplatz, the so-called Tanzmeisterhaus (Dancing Master House). The building was largely destroyed in an air-raid in 1944, but has been restored, and now houses an exhibition of Mozart memorabilia. The house was originally owned by dancing-masters and used for balls and receptions. Mozart lived here with his parents until he finally left Salzburg in 1781. Leopold Mozart died there in 1787. The exhibition includes the oil painting of the family by Johann Nepomuk della Croce, with a portrait of Mozart's mother, who had died in Paris in 1778. The painting dates from 1780 or early 1781.
Music Mozart: Romanza from Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K.467
Mozart entered the Piano Concerto in C major, K.467, into his catalogue of compositions with the date 9th March 1785. It was performed by the composer in the fifth of the Lenten subscribtion concerts he had organized at the Mehlgrube on 11th March, the day after a concert at the Burgtheater for which he had used his new fortepiano with an added pedal-board. His father reported that this instrument was always being taken out of the house, either to the Mehlgrube or to an aristocratic salon for concerts which formed a major element in Mozart's life in Vienna. The slow movement, music of great beauty, has become very familiar since its use in the film Elvira Madigan.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is considered to be one of the greatest composers of all time. He was born in 1756 in a house in the old historical center of Salzburg. The family lived in this house for some 26 years, which is now a museum. Sue and I had a chance to visit the museum during one of our days in Salzburg.

We had a short weekend we spent in Salzburg.
the bus from Prague was 6 hours and we had a buy 1 get 1 free ticket via LEO express bus company. Check their website, they often have deals like that.
Salzburg is awesome and not such a large city that you can get lost.
The main sites are old town, the fortress and Mozart's birth house and later residence.
Make sure to drop by Cafe Sacher for the best sacher cake in the world (as we were told). I agree after trying it.
Oktoberfest is pretty awesome here, drinking for the adults and amusement rides and arcades for the kids.
It's not as expensive as Vienna but can still be rather pricey. We stayed in an airbnb about 20 minutes walk from old town.
Public transportation is easy and I recommend to buy the 24 hour tickets as opposed to single use.
A day trip from here would be Hallstatt which is covered in my other video on that town.
Mozart's Birthplace! Walk Around Salzburg with me :)
Let's take a walk around Salzburg, Austria, the city in which Mozart was born.
Here, I'll show you the actual house in which Mozart was born, another place where he lived, and some other cool things in Salzburg.
My Favorite part of the city actually has nothing to do with Mozart, it has to do with the cool passageways that weave through the old part of the city, which I will of course show you.
This is a really cool and unique city, so come on this mini-walking tour with me and see what it's like!

Mozart was born in 1756 in the “Hagenauer Haus” at No. 9 Getreidegasse in Salzburg. Today, Mozart’s Birthplace is one of the most visited museums in Austria and is an absolute highlight, above all for Mozart fans.

Mozart's birthplace (German: Mozarts Geburtshaus or Hagenauerhaus) was the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at No. 9 Getreidegasse in Salzburg, Austria. The Mozart family resided on the third floor from 1747 to 1773. Mozart himself was born here on 27 January 1756. He was the seventh child of Leopold Mozart, who was a musician of the Salzburg Royal Chamber.
Now a museum, Mozart's birthplace introduces visitors to the early life of the composer, his first musical instruments, his friends, and his passionate interest in opera. The third floor exhibits Mozart's childhoodviolin as well as portraits, documents, and early editions of his music, and the second floor is devoted to Mozart's interest in opera and includes the clavichord on which he composed The Magic Flute. The structure is owned by the Mozart Foundation.

Salzburg is the city of Mozart. The first thing that tourists are looking for is a triad. If you follow the signboard of the street, which is famous for this street, you can find out what kind of shop it is with just a signboard. At the end of the street there is Mozart's birthplace. Mozart's birthplace, which has lived at the age of 17, is now used as a Mozart museum and displays a variety of musical instruments, such as piano and violin, handwritten notes, and letters, which he used in his early childhood. Mozart's father decided to make Mozart a musician here. He discovered his genius when he saw young Mozart, who moved his bell to the music sheet as it was bellowing at the residence square next door. Now, three times a day, the work of Mozart, the Minnets, fills the square. Mozart is one of Salzburg's top tourist attractions. The streets are filled with Mozart. Chocolate, named after his cigarette that he drank tea, and his cloak for wrapping paper, has long been a specialty of Salzburg. Mozart, however, hated herself very much. Mozart became the best tourist product in his hometown. It is an ironic reality.
