TUBING IM DSCHUNGEL - Trekking Mr. Bike, Hsipaw | Backpacking Myanmar | Weltreise | #023

MITTEN IM DSCHUNGEL - Trekking Mr. Bike, Hsipaw | Backpacking Myanmar | Weltreise | #022

Walking/Biking Around Hsipaw (Myanmar)
Hsipaw / သီပေါ / သီႇပေႃ, also known as Thibaw, is the principal town of Hsipaw Township in Shan State, Myanmar on the banks of the Duthawadi River. It is 200 km (124 mi) north-east of Mandalay. Hsipaw State was perhaps one of the most well known and powerful saopha Shan States and the Sawbwas of Hsipaw lived in the Shan Palace at the northern end of the town.
Every day, a train makes it laborious way up from Mandalay, via steep hills and a breathtaking gorge, to Hsipaw (and onward to Lashio). One of the 'must do' railway journeys of the world, the railway line between Pyin u Lwin and Hsipaw is a masterpiece of British engineering, designed primarily to bring trade (and thus control) to the Northern Shan State, an important ally of the British after the conquest of Upper Burma.
The train from Mandalay to Hsipaw takes 11 hours and costs less that 2000Ky or 4000Ky First Class, if you buy in the train station. The train leave at 4am. The journey from Pyin oo Lwin to Hsipaw takes seven hours and costs Kyat 2750 First Class (Upper Class) or Kyat 1200 Second Class (Ordinary Class). Many travelers do the Pyin oo Lwin (Maymyo) to Hsipaw section one way and return by road (7 hours by train, 4 hours by road). Lashio is four hours from Hsipaw by train. The train from Hsipaw to Mandalay (and Pyin Oo Lwin) leaves at 09:40 and arrives in Mandalay at 22:40 (to Pyin Oo Lwin at around 16:00).

We catch the train and travel back in time over the famous Gokteik Viaduct then spend the night in a 3 story bamboo treehouse.

Hey, I'm Charlie, I am just a tiny girl (5ft!) that decided I didn't want to spend my life building someone else's dream so I quit my job to start creating my own!
I wouldn't say my videos are travel vlogs or documentaries, I'm more of a hybrid as I like to create longer epic travel adventures to immerse the audience.
So grab a cup of tea (I'm British...) or beer and get involved ;-)
****THE DRAGON TRIP - DISCOUNT PROMO CODE*****
China is such an underrated country to explore however it can be a little tricky to negociate on your own which is why I decided to go with a tour like THE DRAGON TRIP.
They are NOT the typical company, it's more of a helping hand with transport and language barriers rather than a guided tour taking you to tourist traps etc.
I would never recommend a company I don't believe in and The Dragon Trip went above and beyond my expectations. We even got to camp over night at an unrestored part of The Great Wall of China with just our group which is still, to this day, one of the best travel experiences of my life.
I did the FULL loop but you can also just do sections if you have less time.
You can get 10% OFF with this promo code :
Pocket/TDT19
Head over to The Dragon Trip website for more details -
I am also very happy to answer any questions - just hit me up up on Instagram or in the comments.
FULL DISCLOSURE - I am NOT paid to promote this company but I am an affiliate which basically means if you book with my code I get a little commission which helps support my channel so I can keep creating videos.

Hsipaw Trekking at Northern Shan State of Myanmar ;
You may understand, a trek could be about nature and views of the wilderness ...
But in this case, it was more about seeing the life that operated within it …
Locals could seem remote and exotic at the best of times but it was amplified out here ...
Lives have pretty much been led this way for generations, regardless of who was in charge of the country …
It was unique, it was beautiful in its simplicity, and it was here for you to see and appreciate …
