Mr. Toilet House Suwon, South Korea
Today we visit Haewoojae also known as Mr. Toilet House! I took the train to Suwon (Sungkyunkwan University Station) and grabbed a taxi out front of the train station. It took about 5 min by taxi, and honestly, if I knew where I was going, I would have walked! But I finally made it there, but unfortunately, the actual museum was closed for the weekend due to the New Year Lunar Holiday (I should have known better). So I hope you enjoy watching this video about my trip to Mr. Toilet House in Suwon.
Haewoojae (also Mr. Toilet House ) may be the only building in the world in the form of a toilet. It was the home of Sim Jae-Duck in South Korea's Suwon , which is very committed to the distribution of sanitary sanitation because millions of people worldwide die every year from infections caused by inadequate sanitation. Haewoojae is a two-story steel and glass villa with a floor area of 419 square meters, which was built in 2007 for the equivalent of 1.1 million euros. After the death of Sim Jae-duck in 2009, the house was converted into a museum.

FUN FOR A FIVER. The Mr toilet museum in Suwon (south of Seoul) is all about everyone's favourite bodily function… poop. Come and experience the world of Mr toilet!
In this video we take a cheeky look at one of the quirkiest museums in the world!
Mr Toilet Suwon, South Korea
When in Korea... In Suwon, just south of Seoul lies the loo-themed Haewoojae Museum, set in a giant toilet-shaped house. Built as the home of Sim Jaedeock, a sanitation-minded mayor who worked to change public health standards in the city, he named his new home haewoojae, meaning, “a house to relieve one’s concerns,” a term commonly used in temples when referring to the restroom. Upon his death in 2009, his family donated the unusual house to the city, and it was turned into a museum. In addition to exhibits outlining toilet history in Suwon and worldwide, there’s a sculpture garden filled with all manner of commodes from times past. Music is not my own, courtesy of VivaVideo

Suwon's Toilet House
What to do on a crappy day?? Go to the Toilet House (Museum)!
Suwon's known in Korea for being the place to pop a squat. Prior to the 1980's public toilets were generally fairly ramshackle and disgusting. As former mayor of Suwon and the founder of the World Toilet Association, Sim Jae-Duck (aka. Mr. Toilet) helped to make the country a place to sit down and do your business.
Special thanks to my friends for taking me along!
Korea's Toilet Culture Museum
There is an entire park dedicated to toilets and excrement! What's more is, there is a toilet- shaped house with a very extraordinary bathroom feature. View the video to learn all about the Suwon's Toilet Culture Museum and park.

Tehtiin päiväretki Soulista Suwoniin. Ensin mentiin Mr. Toilet House vessamuseoon, jonka on rakennuttanut Suwonin entinen Pormestari Sim Jaedeok.

STORYLINE
Sim Jae-duck, a former mayor of Suwon, has made his political career as South Korea's Mr. Toilet by beautifying public restrooms as a part of a national push to spruce up the country's facilities for hosting events like the 1988 Summer Olympics and 2002 World Cup.
Now, he's got a home befitting his title: a toilet-shaped domicile complete with the latest in lavatory luxury.
It is my dream to make toilet users smile brightly when they come out from the toilet feeling comfortable and fresh in that place where they can spend their time with cultures around Sim told AP Television.
Sim is building the two-floor house set to be finished on Sunday to commemorate the inaugural meeting later this month of the World Toilet Association.
Sim said he hopes his house in his hometown Suwon, some 45 kilometres (30 miles) south of Seoul, will help bring attention to the cause and is seeking a guest to pay 50-thousand US dollars to stay one night with the proceeds to benefit the association.
Several candidates have already expressed interest, but Sim said he will choose someone who can appropriately represent his cause, with the proceeds set to fund his foundation's work.
Visitors just wanting a glimpse inside the bowl will be charged a 1 US dollar donation.
A showpiece bathroom at the centre of the 420-square-metre (4,520-square-foot) house is on display through a floor-to-ceiling window made of glass that can be turned opaque at the touch of a button.
When guests enter to do their business, a motion sensor activates classical music.
The home has a total four bathrooms, others which offer amenities such as a whirlpool bathtub, urinals and large glass showers.
The World Toilet Association, supported by the South Korean government, says that it aims to launch a toilet revolution, getting people to open up about what goes on in the privacy of their bathrooms for the sake of improving worldwide hygiene.
Representatives from 60 countries are to gather in Seoul later this month to spur the creation of national toilet associations of their own and spread the word about hygiene.
