Mrauk U - Rakhine State - Myanmar - မြောက်ဦးမြို့
Mrauk U and Rakhine State in Myanmar are not just a topic when it comes to the so-called Rohingya. This small town has a long and interesting history of trade and the exchange of different cultures, it's not only houses a multitude of unexplored temples, here people still follow their own Rakhine (Arakan) lifestyle. We also saw the most beautiful sunrise in Myanmar on the way back to Sittwe, but take a look by yourself ...

Western Myanmar Mrauk-U: 700 Buddhist pagodas in the midst of a beautiful landscape
Western Myanmar Mrauk-U: 700 Buddhist pagodas in the midst of a beautiful landscape
Mrauk U is an ancient city, where according to the legend Lord Buddha has been. It has a very special atmosphere. The old temples are situated in the midst of a beautiful and peaceful landscape.
It feels like the Buddha energy is still there. People live a simple, relaxed and peaceful life.
Mrauk U is not easy to reach. First a flight from Yangon to Sittwe. You have grand views from the plane as you can see at my photos. Book it some weeks before during the tourist season.
Then a 3 or 7 hour boat ride (depending on the availability) to Mrauk U. Again great panoramas as you can see in rivers around Mrauk U. It is very worth the effort. I got the feeling how far we, in the so called developed countries, have gone from this simple, natural and peaceful way of living. Living in harmony with each other and with nature.
Dotted in the midst of this beautiful landscape are about 700 Buddhist pagodas (temples), dating from the 16th century. Some are recently excavated and restored. Others remain forgotten, covered with vines and vegetation. The larger pagodas certainly have historical importance, because their well preserved interiors, statuary and bas relief's. Mrauk U is scenically set against a backdrop of small hills with some lakes.

Mrauk U ~ Myanmar (Burma)
Said to be about 500 years old some of the temples of Mrauk U, Myanmar sure have an ancient feel to them. The Koe-Thaung Temple (Temple of 90,000 Buddhist Images) and the Htukkanthein Temple (180 images of Buddha...sacred number?) are featured.

Exploring Mrauk U, Myanmar
Exploring Hidden Ancient City, Mrauk U is a very unique place to discover as a virgin and unknown tourist destination in Myanmar. It is a very wonderful land with hundred of temples, simple and friendly people, very beautiful landscape in Mrauk U and beyond..... It is not much difficult to get there from Yangon, by flight to Sittwe ( Capital of Rakhine State ) and proceed to Mrauk U for 3 hours by private car and for 5-6 hours by private boat. Then you will be exited to explore the ancient Royal Capital of Arakan Kingdom where settled for more than 300 years as a very prosperous city in Asia. Now that going to be a World Heritage town of UNESCO very soon with about 700 Buddhist religious monuments in the midst of the amazing landscapes. Some can be visited but a lots of them are still forgotten in the bushes, in the hills in every corner. There are many untouched beauty remains beyond Mrauk U that would be very good to explore with Mountain bikes and another popular excursion trip by Bike & Boat to Chin villages a long the Lay Mro river is unforgettable experience for those who love nature and adventure.
MRAUK U KINGDOM TEMPLES, MYANMAR / BIRDS EYE VIEW / DRONE 4K
The Kingdom of Mrauk U in Myanmar, is one of the most beautiful destinations in all of South East Asia. Due to its remote location and undeveloped infrastructure, this amazing landscape of temples has mostly gone undiscovered by tourists. During my 4 days exploring the area, my cousin and I had most of the temples to ourselves. We spent many sunrises and sunsets on the hills watching the sun wash the temples in golden light. This video showcases most of the major temples in the area including:
Shite-thaung Temple
Htukkanthein Temple
Koe-thaung Temple
Andaw-thein Ordination Hall
Le-myet-hna Temple
Ratana-pon
The best way to explore this area is by bike. Most of the temples are clustered in 3 major areas that are easily accessed from the main town.

As Mrauk U and the kingdom prospered, the kings, ministers and peasants built many pagodas and temples around the town to reflect their faith. Nowhere else in the world can a cultural heritage be seen in a natural environment.
