MAHAMRITYUNJAY DANDESHWAR JAGESHWAR TEMPLE HD
MAHAMRITYUNJAY , DANDESHWAR , JAGESHWAR TEMPLE HD
Jageshwar is a Hindu pilgrimage town in Almora district, Uttarakhand, dedicated to Lord Shiva, located 36 km northeast of Almora, in Kumaunregion. The temple city comprises a cluster of 124 large and small stone temples, dating 9th to 13th century AD, with many preserved by theArchaeological Survey of India (ASI), which include Dandeshwar Temple, Chandi-ka-Temple, Jageshwar Temple, Kuber Temple, Mritunjaya Temple, Nanda Devi or Nau Durga, Nava-grah temple, a Pyramidal shrine, and Surya Temple, amongst which the oldest shrine is the Mrityunjaya Temple and the biggest shrine is the Dandeshwar Temple. Once the centre of LakulishShaivism, Jageshwar is located at an altitude of 1870 mts, in the Jataganga river valley near a Deodar forest (Cedrus deodara) starting from Artola village on Almora–Pithoragarh highway, where two streams Nandini and Surabhi flow down the hills in the narrow valley and meet near the sacred spot.
Jageshwar is believed to be the site of first of the twelve Jyotirlingas,Nageshvara Jyotirlinga. The 'Jageshwar Monsoon Festival', held between 15 July to 15 August takes place at Jageshwar during the Hindu calendar month of Shravan and the annual 'Maha Shivratri Mela' (Shivratri festival), which takes place during spring has an important place in the calendar of the entire Kumaon region.
There is no definite dating of the construction of Jageshwar group of temples but according to the ASI, they belong to the post-Gupta and pre-medieval eras and are estimated to be about 450 yrs old. These temples range in the period from the 8th century (early Katyuri Dynasty) to the 18th century (Chand Dynasty). The temples were renovated during the reign of Katyuri King Shalivahandev. There is an inscription of Malla Kings on the main temple premises indicating their devotion to Jageshwar. The Katyuri Kings also donated villages to the temple priests for its maintenance. The Chand Kings of Kumaunwere also patrons of the Jageshwar temple.
Numerous Jageshwar temples were constructed or restored during the Gurjara Pratihara era.
It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya visited Jageshwar and renovated and re-established many temples before leaving forKedarnath. The Samsan ghat of Jageshwar is also the cremation ground of the erstwhile Chand Kings. It is possible that sati, the act of self-immolation, may have been performed here. The temples architecture belong to the Nagara [this link is not to an appropriate entry] style, characterized by a tall curved spire surmounted by an amalaka (capstone) and a kalasha crown. Most of the temples enshrine a stone lingam, surrounded by stone sculptures of various deities. The pilgrimage to Jageshwar was considered as sacred as the famous chardham yatra.
Before the construction of roads, pilgrims passed through Jageshwar en route to Kailash and Mansarovar. Due to the restrictions on pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar in the past, pilgrims were diverted towards Kedarnath; however, this center has re-attained its past glory. Beautiful Sri Mahamritunjaya Mahadev*Jageshwar temple* Almora district, Uttarakhand
Sri Mahamritunjaya Mahadev
The Mahamrityunjay temple is the largest and oldest temple in the Jageshwar temple complex. This temple of Shiva is eastern facing and the Linga is worshipped as the saviour from death - महामृत्युंजय. The unique linga has an eye shaped opening. Pilgrims believe that reciting the Mahamritunjaya Mantra (महामृत्युंजय मंत्र) is a fruitful, auspicious and powerful method of self-realisation, removal of evil effects, and freedom from all kinds of fears, illness and negativity. The Mahamritunjaya Mantra is attested in the Sukla Yajurveda Samhita III/60 -
A continuous chain of snowcapped mountains looms over this beautiful temple site where silence reigns supreme and not even a leaf rustles, as though afraid to disturb the stillness.
This is a sacred site where nearly two hundred stone temples were built in honor of Lord Shiva, one of the principle Hindu Gods. The mighty force of the cosmic dance begins to work on ones mind when one visits one temple after another here. Most of the temples are dedicated to Shiva and he is addressed by different names like Dandeshavara, Nilakantheshvara, Mahamrityunjaya, etc. and Jageshwar is only a corruption of Yogisvara or the Lord of the Yogis. These together with other temples dedicated to Surya -the Sun God, Navadurga (nine manifestations of the great goddess Durga), Kalika, Pushtidevi, Kuber etc. indicate that their builders practiced Shaivism (worship of Shiva), especially the Lakulish sect.
Of the numerous stone temples in this group, the Mahamrityunjaya temple seems to be the oldest and is dated approximately to the 8th century AD, while the others mentioned above, including a few minor ones, belong to the subsequent centuries. The temples of Surya, Navagraha and Neelkantheshvara are of late Katyuri age. It is said that originally four hundred temples existed here, of which only about one hundred and eight have survived.
The temples of Jageshwar belong to the simple Nagara style (north Indian style of temple architecture). Temples belonging to this style have a tall curvilinear spire shikhara surmounted by an amalaka (capstone) and a kalasha (the water urn shaped auspicious Hindu symbol) atop the square Garbhagriha, the entrance to which is through a carved doorway.
About Mahamritunjay Temple Jageshwar :
The Maha Mrityunjaya Tample is the temple of Lord Shiva (part of the hindu trinity, the lord of destruction, penance and meditation) for help in overcoming death. The seeker is more concerned with avoiding spiritual death rather than physical death. The main objective of the temple is to request to Lord Shiva to lead us to the mountain of meditation, which is indeed Lord Shiva's abode. We worship The Three-Eyed Lord Shiva who is naturally fragrant, immensely merciful and who is the Protector of the devotees. Worshipping him may we be liberated from death for the sake of immortality just as the ripe cucumber easily separates itself from the binding stalk i.e. “By your Grace, Let me be in the state of salvation (Moksha) and be saved from the clutches of fearful death and calamities”.
By chanting this Maha Mrityunjay Mantra, divine vibrations are generated which wards off all the negative vibrations and evil forces and create a powerful protective shield. And it is said to protect the one who chants against accidents and misfortunes of every kind. It is also said to have a powerful healing of diseases declared incurable even by the doctors. This is the Mantra to conquer death and connects us to our own inner divinity.

By Vlog Abhishek Pandit

Trimbakeshwar or Trambakeshwar is an ancient Hindu temple in the town of Trimbak, in the Nashik District of Maharashtra, India, 28 km from the city of Nashik. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.
Trimbakeshwar is a religious center having one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The extraordinary feature of the Jyotirlinga located here is its three faces embodying Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Rudra. Due to excessive use of water, the linga has started to erode. It is said that this erosion symbolizes the eroding nature of human society. The Lingas are covered by a jeweled crown which is placed over the Gold Mask of Tridev (Brahma Vishnu Mahesh). The crown is said to be from the age of Pandavs and consists of diamonds, emeralds, and many precious stones. The crown is displayed every Monday from 4-5 pm (Shiva).
All other Jyotirlingas have Shiva as the main deity. The entire black stone temple is known for its appealing architecture and sculpture and is at the foothills of a mountain called Brahmagiri. Three sources of the Godavari originate from the Brahmagiri mountain.
