????Mt. Popa Bagan - A Visit At Mount Popa - Bagan - Myanmar (Burma) The Best View For Mt. Popa ????????????
????Mt. Popa Bagan - a visit at mount popa - bagan - myanmar (burma) The Best View For Mt. Popa ????????????
Mount popa is a stratovolcano in central Myanmar, and is the northern most important summit in the pegu range. The mountain is southeast of the popular traveler vacation spot Bagan, and is positioned within and protected by Mt. Popa national Park. The name Popa is thought to derive from the Sanskrit phrase puppa, which means flower. The northern phase of Mt. Popa’s crater rim has collapsed, leaving a deep, mile-huge caldera, with just over 1/2 of the crater rim intact. As with many volcanoes, volcanic ash has contributed to wealthy soil, and the base of the volcano is covered in lush plant life, thinning to grass on the outer slopes as one reaches the higher mountain. Mount popa is a famous vacation spot for neighborhood people, and there's lots of records and plenty of legends involving the mountain. For greater records, take a look at out the wikipedia page right here:

Journey to Bagan, Burma / Popa Mountain, Myanmar / Inle Lake, Nyaung Shwe
Our Journey to Bagan, Burma or Myanmar? This is actually only a debate for the English language. Burmese locals speak they are from Burma but write formally they are from Myanmar. It is said that letters B & M also Y & R are interchangeable in Indo-Chinese languages.
Formally known as Burma and was renamed Myanmar in 1989 by a Military dictatorship which overthrew the government in the 60’s and 70’s. The State Law and Restoration Council formed in 1988, thought that the previous name Burma coming from the majority ethnic group called Bama originated as the British Colonization name for its country and underrepresented all ethnic varieties in its lands.
Myanmar has encouraged tourism since 1992, but United Nations showed caution to foreign tourism due to its governments instability.
Now Tourism is very successful, yet untouched by western culture. There is no western fast food restaurants and still traffic is as most asian countries, organised chaos on the streets.
Bagan is another accent city we have visited recently and we thoroughly enjoyed the peacefulness. Freely riding our eco-electric scooter through fields of hundreds of pagodas. Stopping and exploring selected places of worship, accepting their cultural rules.
- Removing shoes and socks before entering
- Covering the legs of women
- No sleeveless vests or singlets are to be worn
- Walk Clockwise around the temple and not in front of people praying
- Never point your feet towards the Buddha.
We always use booking.com for our accommodation

Visit Asiatico Pub if your in Nyaung Shwe, great expat bar. Pool tables, cheap alcohol and a fun atmosphere.
Also we visited Aung Traditional Puppet Show. There is many puppet shows in Nyaung Shwe. We were told this was the best. Please let me know in the comments if there is a better one! We thought is was great although we had a couple under our belt.
While we were in Nyaung Shwe we visited a monastery in the rice fields and met the Monk U Kon Da La, such a calm sole, he offered us bananas and told us of the changing seasons he has witnessed over last 39 years on the rice fields that surrounds the monastery. He spoke also how developed China is and of course named all the animals he knew of Australia.
On the way to Mount Popa there are many lest fortunate people on the side of the road begging for people to drop money for them. You will see in the video the people collective truck in front of us throwing money out for them.
Mountain Popa Resort was very professional, peaceful and has the most amazing view of the sunsetting behind the Temple placed right on top of a mountain. If you are visiting Mount Popa on a day trip from Bagan, visiting the resort just for a relaxing drink, lunch or swim in the infinity pool will complete your memory. Binoculars are also provided at their lockout point.
Traversing the Popa Mountain was quite pleasurable in the afternoon as the morning crowds subside and travel back usually to Bagan. Woman at the bottom fold corn kernels into paper prepairing for the monkeys feeding frenzy. The monkeys gave us no trouble although we were warned.
All in all we appreciated the warm welcoming by every person we met in Myanmar. The raw untouched culture was amazing to see and given another change we will be back to explore again.

We visited the most delicious vegetarian restaurants located in Bagan. Be Kind To The Animals The Moon and The MOON 2. We highly recommend this restaurant.
BURMA / MYANMAR - Mount Popa (hd-video)
Most tourists visit mount Popa from Bagan on a daytrip.
Mount Popa is near Kyaukpadaung and the place is famous for it's Nats.
You can walk to the top (barefoot of course), but the way up is not very clean.
Nearby you can visit a factory where palm wine is made.

Mount Popa:
Mount Popa is a volcano 1518 metres (4981 feet) above sea level, and located in central Burma (Myanmar) about 50 km (31 mi) southeast of Bagan (Pagan) in the Pegu Range. It can be seen from the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River as far away as 60 km (37 mi) in clear weather.Mount Popa is perhaps best known as a pilgrimage site, with numerous Nat temples and relic sites atop the mountain.
Many legends are associated with this mountain including its dubious creation from a great earthquake and the mountain erupted out of the ground in 442 B.C. It is possible that the legends about Nats represent a heritage of earlier animist religions in Burmese countryside, which were syncreticised with Buddhist religion in 11th century. There are legends that before the reign of Bagan king Anawrahta (1044 - 1077) hundreds of animals were sacrificed here as a part of nat worship rituals.
Mount Popa is considered the abode of Burma's most powerful Nats and as such is the most important nat worship center. It has therefore been called Burma's Mount Olympus.
One legend tells about brother and sister Mahagiri (Great Mountain) nats, from the kingdom of Tagaung at the upper reaches of the Irrawaddy, who sought refuge from King Thinligyaung of Bagan (344-387). Their wish was granted and they were enshrined on Mt Popa.
Another legend tells about Popa Medaw (Royal Mother of Popa), who according to legend was a flower-eating ogress called Me Wunna, she lived at Popa. She fell in love with Byatta, whose royal duty was to gather flowers from Popa for King Anawrahta of Bagan (1044--1077). Byatta was executed for disobeying the king who disapproved of the liaison, and their sons were later taken away to the palace. Me Wunna died of a broken heart and, like Byatta, became a nat. Their sons also became heroes in the king's service but were later executed for neglecting their duty during the construction of a pagoda at Taungbyone near Mandalay. They too became powerful nats but they remained in Taungbyone where a major festival is held annually in the month of Wagaung (August).
Although all 37 Nats of the official pantheon are represented at the shrine on Mt Popa, in fact only four of them - the Mahagiri nats, Byatta and Me Wunna - have their abode here.
Many Burmese pilgrims visit Mt Popa every year, especially at festival season on the full moon of Nayon (May/June) and the full moon of Nadaw (November/December). Local people from the foot of Mt Popa, at Kyaukpadaung (10-miles), go mass-hiking to the peak during December and also in April when the Myanmar new year called Thingyan festival is celebrated. Before King Anawrahta's time, hundreds of animals were sacrificed to the nats during festivals.
Burmese superstition says that on Mt Popa, one should not wear red or black or green or bring meat, especially pork, as it could offend the resident nats, although Byatta and his brother Byatwi were the only Muslims who had shipwrecked and landed in Burma.

When I was in Myanmar I did sharing of merits for donating Monastery, Novice Ordination and Ear Piercing Ceremony to the girls of my birth place of Shaw Taw Village Mt. Popa. In ceremony my pupils hired Myanmar Traditional Orchestra and Traditional Dancer Ei Phyu Sin. I wasn't at Pavlovian at that time so I didn't know how she was hard working. Now when I viewed this video I regret a lot because I didn't award to her for her hard working.

MOUNT POPA: Monkeys, spirits and 777 steps to get to the top. Myanmar
Mount Popa in a minute! When I was in Bagan, lots of people asked me these questions: Is going to visit the Temple on Mount Popa worth our time? Are the monkeys dangerous? What should we expect?
Well, I've had this video ready to go for ages... I just wanted to insert some words; but since the reality is that if you are asking about this temple, than you've probably already read about the spirits that live here and about the amount of monkeys that are all over the place. You probably already know about the 777 steps you have to go up to get to the top.... to the top of the tiny mountain, which is actually the volcanic plug of a volcano, to where the temple is situated...
Since you already know all this, (and I just wrote it????????), I decided to post the video how it is...a short visual video! I hope you enjoy this taste of Mount Popa, and of course don't forget to like and subscribe!
