Climbing Mt Sarakura, Kitakyushu! | JET Programme 2018
On August 11th 2018 I went with a small group of JETs to climb Mt Sarakura in the district of Yahata in Kitakyushu, my new home city! I say ‘climb’; I mean ride up in cable cars ^^”
The view from the top of the mountain was spectacular. We had a picnic together up there. We were in the clouds which made for an extremely humid time but it was very fun to spend time with everyone and see the city spanned out like this.

Mt.Sarakura is located in Kitakyushu Quasi-National Park,standing 622 meters above sea level.
From the top,you can get a magnificent panoramic view.of the landscape.
Especially,the night view is fantastic.
Mt.Sarakura is also known as Mecca for paragliding pilots.
During the Paragliding Festival in October,sky is spotted with colorful paragliders.

The night view from the summit of Mt. Sarakura, known as the 10-billion-dollar yakei, has been certified as one of the New Three Major Night Views of Japan. It's attractively convenient, about 10 minutes' drive from JR Yahata Station to the base of the mountain and another 10 minutes to the top by cable and slope cars. For our program, Anne Crescini of the USA savored accessible scenery along with the delights of the Starry Sky Beer Garden that's open at this season.

Sarakurayama is one of the greatest views of Japan - and largely unknown to many tourists and ignored by the tourist books to their great shame. On a clear day you can see the entire city as well as Yamaguchi, the southernmost place in the main island of Honshu. Even more spectacular is the view on a clear night. You haven't seen all the best of Japan until you go to the top of Sarakurayama (622 m, 2041 ft) and have a look.
