My Story: Climbing Mount Elbrus
My Story: Climbing Mount Elbrus’ is a journey to the top of Europe’s highest mountain, Elbrus. Located in Russia, it stands at 5642m. To get to the summit one has to deal with freezing temperatures and snow storms. Julia Lyubova, who’s on a mission to climb the 7 summits, shares every aspect of the trek, from life at the base camp and ice axe fun in the snow to the gruelling 7-hour overnight summit push.

ELBRUS via Baksan-Valley July 2017 I Normal route south climb climbing (Besteigung Normalweg Juli)
Mount Elbrus is with 5642m the highest mountain of Russia and also one of the Seven Summits, more precisely the highest mountain of Europe.
It is located in the Caucasus mountain range between the Caspian and Black Sea and can be accessed via the North or the South. The regular route starts from the Baksan-Valley in the South of Elbrus, starting in Cheget/Terskol and taking a medium of 5 days.
We had two acclimatisation hikes and one day to carry our luggage to the Botschki on 3800m, our base camp and on the fourth day we started at 3AM for the summit push. As we didn't take the snowcat, our summit day was a very strenuous and long climb with over 2000 altitude meters. We summited Mt. Elbrus with three friends on the 31st July 2017 under very good conditions and were back in Cheget on the 1st of August.

Acclimatizing in the Baksan Valley and up Mt. Cheget before setting out for a summit of Mt. Elbrus. This trip was with guide company Pilgrim Tours from the South side. Summit day weather was icy with winds, but cleared up towards the end. The Caucasus mountains are beautiful!

Gumachi Peak Russia
Gumachi Peak at 3805m is in Russia's Caucasus mountains near Mineralnye Vody, a spa town in the Baksan Valley near Mount Elbrus.
This was done in 2004 as an acclimatisation peak for ascending Elbrus. Gumachi lies in the main Caucasus range and is climbed via the west ridge on the Jankuat Glacier.

Project7: Mount Elbrus Climb | Russian Mountain Holidays (RMH)
PROJECT7 with Eric Pilon-Bignell from Canada: Climbing big mountains with a purpose. The Seven Summits are composed of each of the highest mountain peaks on each of the seven continents. One of these peaks, the highest in Europe and Russia is Mt. Elbrus 5642 m., found in the North Caucasus, Russia. This is an ideal for those looking to summit all the 7 summits, as the climbing itself often times not very technical, but still gives the climber very high altitude exposure. We are proud that since 2012 Russian Mountain Holidays has been helping climbers from all over the world achieve their dreams of climbing the highest point in Europe! We are fortunate to meet people who are planning to climb the highest summit on each continent of the world, and Mt. Elbrus is a great kickoff mountain. This year, our Canadian amigo, Eric Bignell climbed Mt. Elbrus via the South Route for charity. We were proud to partner with Eric and help him works towards his goal of completing PROJECT7. PROJECT7 is an initiative where Eric plans to climb all 7 summits while raising awareness and money for Brain research.
