Driving by car to Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi. You can get a perfect landscape of Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko at Nagasaki Park and Oishi Park. Both are along the north shore of the lake. Mid April you can enjoy the full bloom of cherry blossom (sakura).
Yoshidaguchi 5th Station or Kawaguchiko 5th Station) lies at approximately the halfway point of the Yoshida Trail, which leads from Fujiyoshida Sengen Shrine at the mountain's base to the summit of Mount Fuji. It is the most popular of the four 5th stations on Mount Fuji. It is accessible almost year round, snow conditions permitting, and is a popular sightseeing spot even outside of the climbing season.
At Lake Kawaguchiko you can rent a pedal boat, speed boat and a ferry in which you can enjoy a cruise while viewing Mount Fuji and the wonderful scenery of the town.

Traveled to Fujiyoshida for a 4 day business trip in hopes to see Mount Fuji.
While in Fujiyoshida I found there are a few things to actually do in the surrounding areas.
Fujiyoshida (富士吉田市 Fujiyoshida-shi) is a city located in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on March 20, 1951. Fujiyoshida lies at the base of Mount Fuji, and is built upon old lava flows. It is considered a high-elevation city in Japan, at 2,140 to 2,800 feet above sea level. The city is also located between two of the Fuji Five Lakes.Fuji-Q Highland an amusement park with a variety of attractions suitable for adults and children.

Chureito Pagoda in Fujiyoshida, near Kawaguchiko, Yamanashi. Japan
This video shows our trip to the beautiful Chureito Pagoda (in Japanese: 忠霊塔 ), which had stunning, gorgeous views over Mount Fuji on a clear May day. We visited this are of Japan on May 11th, just after sakura season and golden week, and during our springtime visit we visited & toured the surrounding area of Fujiyoshida, Kawaguchiko & Yamanashi.
There are a lot of steps - the climb up is pretty tiring! - but every so often we took a break from the stairs to look at the view behind us of Mt Fuji and that helped! Once we got up there, it was worth all the huffing and puffing up - the views were magnificant - super pretty! Especially in Spring when Mount Fuji is still capped with a lot of snow to make it look particularly majestic.
If you're planning a Japanese holiday tour to this glorious area of Japan near Fuji Mountain and Lake Kawaguchiko, I recommend stopping by this pagoda - it's a bit of a walk and a bit of a ramble / hike, but I guess it's a good way to get your fitness on and stay fit! And it's great for photographers and tourists alike!

Chureito Pagoda & Kawaguchiko: Mt Fuji Viewing with Cherry Blossoms!
2 weeks ago on 20 April I visited the Chureito Pagoda to get that stereotypical picture of Japan featuring the pagoda, cherry blossoms and Mt Fuji, followed by a bike ride around Lake Kawaguchiko and my first limited express (特急) E257 series train back to Tokyo!

Let’s Go! Conquering Mt. Fuji
Mt. Fuji is Japan’s tallest mountain at 3776m and an iconic landmark of the country. The mountain is accessible in July and August and has multiple trails from different directions all leading to the summit. Some of the essential items to have on the hike include hiking shoes, a walking stick, layers of clothing (including gloves and a waterproof jacket/pants- it’s deceptively cold at the peak especially at night), food and fluids (over 2.5L), headlamp (for night hikes). Some of optional items include oxygen cannisters and a hiking bag.
Scaling Mt. Fuji was an adventure that I had dreamed about before even moving to Japan. It was a bucket list item and I was proud to have completed this challenge with some of my closest friends in Japan. With a lack of sleep and minimal prior hiking experience, we were able to complete the entire hike in 12 hours. During our three day stay, we were fortunate to also visit some of the surrounding lakes and sites.

The Let's Go Series was produced to inspire my ES children to get outside and explore. Only basic English is used in the videos so that children learning English as a second language can follow along.

Mount Kachikachi Ropeway has changed the name into Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway last 01 April 2018. At the observation deck you can capture the panoramic view of Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko during good weather. It opens from 9:00am-5:20pm.

Hike Up Mount Fuji (富士山 Fujisan) Japan 2016
This is our hike up Mount Fuji (富士山 Fujisan). We did this on July 5th, just after the official hiking season opened and used the Yoshida Trail starting at the Fuji-Subaru 5th station. We traveled from Tokyo on a JR train (Chūō Main Line Rapid Service) to Ōtsuki Station, and then to Kawaguchiko on the Fujikyu Railway service. This website provided particularly good instructions on how to do this and it was easy.
We actually got off a couple stops before Kawaguchiko Station, at Fuji Station, where the bus to the Fuji-Subaru Line 5th station originates. If you wait until Kawaguchiko, the buses are crowded!
We started from the 5th station at about noon. The length of Yoshida trail is approximately 3.6 miles on the way up (4824’ gain) and 4.3 miles on the route down. Deceptively short!! The trail starts off very easy and is a wide volcanic ash path with bits of shade along the way. By the time you get to the 6th station, about .9mi in, the trees have disappeared and the trail starts to ascend more steeply. DO NOT FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN LIKE WE DID! Bring a lot of 100JPY coins, restroom use is 200JPY at each station. If you have a touristy Fuji walking stick, bring even more, as it takes 200-400JPY to get it branded at each station. Also, drinks get more expensive the higher you go, from 200JPY at the bottom to 500JPY near the top. As you approach the 7th station .6mi further, the trail starts to get very steep. We stayed at the Kamaiwa-kan hut at the 7th station ( It was easy to make a reservation online and was not too high up the trail. We got there late afternoon and rested until dinner at 6PM, then went to sleep until midnight when we continued our journey. A good headlamp is necessary and I’m glad I had my Zebralight with me. The trail is just relentless on the way up from the 7th station. By the time we got to the 8.5 station, it was time to watch the sun rise (4:20AM). The sun rises very early on Fuji! I was also glad for the rest because my lungs could not get enough air for me to move very quickly. After sunrise, we continued to the summit. This was the most difficult part of the hike for me and I needed rest every few minutes. My legs were fine, I just could not get enough air, which caused dizziness and short periods of nausea. The Yoshida Trail summit (12267') was a welcome sight! Because we hiked so early in the season, the summit shops were still closed, as were portions of the crater circumference trail. I was told these open up after the 15th of July. NO RESTROOM and NO WATER this time of year at the summit. I hiked around to the crater side of the buildings to see the crater, which was a spectacular sight. I’d never seen the crater of a volcano before. The wind was howling at around 40mph and the temps were in the mid 30s…with the clouds blowing through, it was wicked cold. The trail back down is different from the way up and consists of mostly soft ash, which is hard to walk on…kind of like hiking on the beach. My legs were dead by the time we got back to the 5th station bus 24hrs later. This hike was definitely worth it for me, has spectacular views, and was the 1st time I’d hiked at any real altitude, let alone 12K feet. One day I plan to get to Everest base station…I need to do more cardio if I’m even going to step foot near that place!

Mount Fuji (富士山, Fujisan) is with 3776 meters Japan's highest mountain. It is not surprising that the nearly perfectly shaped volcano has been worshiped as a sacred mountain and experienced big popularity among artists and common people throughout the centuries.
Mount Fuji is an active volcano, which most recently erupted in 1707. It stands on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures and can be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days.
Another easy way to view Mount Fuji is from the train on a trip between Tokyo and Osaka. If you take the shinkansen from Tokyo in direction of Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, the best view of the mountain can be enjoyed from around Shin-Fuji Station on the right hand side of the train, about 40-45 minutes into the journey.
Note however, that clouds and poor visibility often block the view of Mount Fuji, and you have to consider yourself lucky if you get a clear view of the mountain. Visibility tends to be better during the colder seasons of the year than in summer, and in the early morning and late evening hours than during the middle of the day.
If you want to enjoy Mount Fuji at a more leisurely pace and from a nice natural surrounding, you should head to the Fuji Five Lake (Fujigoko) region at the northern foot of the mountain, or to Hakone, a nearby hot spring resort. Mount Fuji is officially open for climbing during July and August via several routes.

We went to Mt. Fuji in Japan on Oct 4th, 2013. This is just after the off season, but the weather was great and it was safe to climb. There was barely anyone on the mountain with us. I think we saw 2 other people.
We started at the 5th station at 8:00 am and climbed to the top of Mt. Fuji. We took the Yoshida Trail. After the 8 station, the air gets thin and it is a lot harder to climb. It is an odd and awesome feeling.
Around the 6th station we found a snowboard. I thought it was a good idea to carry it to the top of Mt. Fuji and try to snowboard down. I failed miserably :)
