Hashikami Bouldering

April 2012. We've been getting out to this AMAZING (and newly
developed/deeloping) granote area called Hashikami, in Aomori
Prefecture. The climbing is typical of granite - a bit technical, a bit
powerful, and relying a great deal on friction. We've been able to
climb some of the areas (new) classics, and it's also been fun to work
on some projects, and to climb lines that are so seldom done - there is
hardly any chalk! Liz and I have been shown around the area by some
good friends from RAT Walls climbing gym (in Hirosaki, Aomori). Thank
you Taku-san, Shinya-san and Shibata-san! I hope we can get back out
there before the bugs and snakes do!

The Higashiyama or Higashiyama Yûhodô Trail is a hike well known to everyone traveling to Takayama. It defines the city to the east and let us discover a dozen temples at the foot of the mountain. Higashiyama Yûhodô crosses Teramachi (the temple district still called Higashiyama) and ends at Shiroyama Park, at the foot of the ruins of the castle. This small, discreet path leads to the back of the houses and leads from temple to temple for a cultural visit of the city.

三陸復興国立公園指定記念ＣＭ

青森県の最東端、階上町は雄大な太平洋と階上岳に囲まれた町です。
平成25年5月24日、階上岳と階上海岸が三陸復興国立公園に指定されたのを記念して、はしかみキッズのかぜ丸くんが記者会見を行い、全宇宙人に向けてメッセージを発信しました。

平成25年5月24日、階上岳が三陸復興国立公園に指定されました。

標高740ｍの階上岳。北西には隣接する八戸市街、八甲田連峰を一望でき、北東には広大な太平洋、また南西には北上山脈を眺めることができます。 山の8合目、大開平には天然のつつじが見事に群生し、6月上旬～中旬の花盛りの時期には登山者の姿が絶えません。登山道は、町の中央部の登山口からと観音 堂のある寺下からのコース、町の西部（田代地区）からのコースがあります。夏はもちろんのこと、冬のハイキングも楽しむことができます。

三陸復興国立公園の一角に建つ、小さな可愛い灯台、階上灯台です。
小学校の校庭に隣接した海の小さな岬の先に立っている、小舟渡海岸に立つ小さくて可愛い灯台です。

芝生が小学校の校庭とつながってます。
素晴らしい環境。
ここの小学校に通ってる生徒が羨ましい(^O^)

In April 2016 we spent 10 days hiking around 175km of the Nakasendo Way, a 16th century path through the mountains that connects Kyoto to Tokyo via 69 post towns...conveniently during cherry blossom season. A perfect way to celebrate my wife turning 40!

This is my first time ever reaching the summit of Mt. Takao, and being the only person there. I met only 6 climbers today scattered along the trail, but I was alone at the top. What a weird feeling.

Shichinohe, Aomori Prefecture Japan. Spring comes a little later in Northern Japan. You can see we still have quite a bit of snow in some areas. 115km 1678m climbing or 72miles and 5505ft climbing. Not a bad day!
