We were able to participate in a sightseeing tour of Komagane in southern Nagano organized by Nagano Prefecture Tourism. Actually, it is north of Iida.
We visited Kozen Temple. Here, there is a dog that was inshrined because he fought off a evil monster many years ago. His name is Hayataro. From there we went to get lunch at Komagane Farms. We ate a local speciality, sauce katsu don (fried pork cutlet on top a bowl of rice) and had a locally brewed beer.
After lunch we got on bus went up the small mountain road to Shirabidaira Station to take the ropeway up to Senjōjiki. Senjojiki Station is the highest station in Japan. The view from here would have been amazing if it weren't for the snowfall. Visibility was rather low.
After we made our way back down, we saw a stunning view of Komagane from the bus on the mountain road.
Really interesting area and we want to come back again.
