The Hike Club - Angel Island
The Hike Club took a trip to hiding gem in the bay area this past weekend. Angel Island, 10 miles aways from the shore of Tiburon is a must see spot for all local and tourist in the San Francisco Bay Area. the only way there is by Ferry, you can catch it from SF from Pier or from Tiburon port. Once you arrive to the island you will have the chance to explore the 5.5 miles perimeter by foot or bike. The perimeter includes attractions such as the Immigration offices, world war 2 missile sites, and the camping grounds with an overlook to the SF Bay. Or if you feel more adventurous, then you can take a hike 2.5 hour roundtrip long up to Mt. Livermore. Up in Mt. Livermore you can check out amazing views of the Bay Area most fascinating landmarks such as The Bay Bridge, The Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Treasure Island, and even SF itself. I would definitely encourage every one to go visit the Sunset Trail and just enjoy the fascinating views that this hidden jewel has to offer.
Early arrival is a must!!! Last ferry to land leaves at 3:20pm

Visit to Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay (includes tramlapse tour)
A visit to the largest island in San Francisco Bay: Angel Island. On an unusually warm December day. With the exception of a small portion that is a U.S. Coast Guard Station, the entire island is a California State Park. We arrive and leave by ferry, and take a tramlapse tour around the island, stopping at about 13 different points of interest, including some very good views and a bit of history, too (my first ever tramlapse video). We'll even briefly teleport over to the Golden Gate Bridge.
There are several editing mistakes that snuck through in a few places, oh well... Maybe we'll have a contest to see who can find them all.

Angel Island Ablaze 12/13 Oct 2008
- October 12 & 13, 2008-
The first web report that I found was filed about 3 minutes before I saw the fire from the El Cerrito Hills...
SFist.com reports the following:
The U.S. Coast Guard and San Francisco/Marin firefighters are battling a blaze on the eastside of Angel Island, which was reported at 9 p.m. tonight. At about 9:50 p.m., the huge fire [is] about 25 acres wide, SFist reader Jay Rodriguez reports. (ABC7 reports 10 acres have burned so far.) Read more about the island fire, here and here.
Angel Island -- a hilly, grass and forest-covered island, the largest in San Francisco Bay, which used to house a the Nike Missile base in the '50s -- covers 740 acres, reaching 788 feet high at its peak atop Mount Livermore.
Update (10:35 p.m.): Also, you can check out live cam views of the fire as it happens at cams.exploratorium.edu and abovephotos.com.
Update (11:00 p.m.): Campers have been carried form Angel Island to Tiburon. One engine is at the island now. People if four counties can see it burning from four counties, says KGO reporter. And with that, we're turning the channel to a Law & Order: SVU block. Will update again if anything update-y happens.
Update (11:28 p.m.): According to Wildlandfire, Evacuations!
Island Campsites and non-firefighting and non-essential State Parks personnel are asked to evacuate Angel Island or shelter in place at Ayala Cove.
Also, 50 acres reported torched thus far, significant cultural and historical resources threatened.
Update (11:48 p.m.): Oh, and here's some YouTube footage of the blaze, shot from Yerba Buena Island looking North toward Angel Island.
Update (12:26 a.m.): As many as 200 firefighters are expected to help fight the blaze overnight.
