Climbing Mount Mitoku is a challenging adventure. Ancient wooden halls and temples line the trail to the most famous and mysterious of them all- Nageiredo. Here's a few short clips from my hike.

Japan's most UNDERRATED Prefecture || TOTTORI HIDDEN GEM ||
Tottori is definitely in my top 5 list to go visit! This insanely beautiful Prefecture has everything you want from nature hikes, shrines, beaches, sand dunes, para gliding, kayaking! The best thing to top it up is that there are RARELY any tourist! Most of the people we met were all Local people.
The hike we did to Mt Mitoku was amazing, it is quite dangerous therefore be careful and wear decent shoe. However, the view is absolutely breathtaking!
It is unfortunate we couldn't stay longer but I recommend staying for atleast 5days doing everything in the area!

Hiking to Mitokusan Sanbutsu Temple with Friends
It was a hot day, but enjoyable all the same. These temples are built high up in the mountain on seemingly-precarious cliffs. The most impressive one is at the end of the trail, built straight into the side of the mountain! Apparently these were built almost 1300 years ago. No one knows how they managed the last one! (correct me if I'm wrong on my info!)

ところどころ... 三徳山三仏寺 part 6
Sanbutsu-ji (三仏寺) is a Buddhist temple in the town of Misasa, Tottori Prefecture, Japan. The Nageire Hall (投入堂 Nageire-dō) of Sanbutsu-ji, was built in the Heian period, and is a designated national treasure of Japan.
The story goes that Sanbutsu-ji was founded by a Buddhist ascetic and mystic of the late Asuka period ~ monk En no Gyōja (634–701). Gyōja is considered the founder of Shugendō, a syncretic religion which incorporated aspects old Shinto, Japanese folk animism, shamanism, Taoism and the esoteric Buddhism of the Shingon Mikkyō and Tendai sects.
ところどころ... 三徳山三仏寺 part 7
Around one hundred and fifty years later, master Jikaku Daishi Ennin (who travelled around Japan founding temples),enshrined three Buddhist statues here,-'here',referring to what now has become known as Sanbutsu-ji Temple. However, there isn't a single historical document about Nageire Hall. A legend has been created, but in all honesty,it remains a mystery as to who built it,and when.

One of the world’s richest radium springs containing high radon concentration – Kiya Ryokan has long been familiar to many people since Edo Period as a ryokan (Japanese inn) with hot springs welling up from underground, right beneath its baths. Now Kiya Ryokan features not only great hot springs but also abundant natural surroundings that change from season to season and a rich hot spring culture. The theme of the ryokan is “Wellness hot springs”. Kiya Ryokan is the place to experience good old Japanese culture while healing the mind and body.

Interior Features
Maze-like structures along bathing facilities
Bathing facilities were built first and the rest of the ryokan was built later. As a result, the layout of the building has become like a maze.
For example, “Rakusen no yu”, which is one of the original baths existing since the ryokan’s foundation in 1868, is located on a semi-basement. From the bath, a chimney to release the water vapor was built up to the roof to prevent high humidity. When the building was renovated in Taisho Period, corridors and guest rooms were built along the chimney.
Facilities
Semi-basement ・・・hot spring bath and storage
1st Floor・・・entrance, front desk, storage, kitchen, hot spring bath, guest room “Ran”
2nd Floor・・・guest rooms (9), banquet hall, private rooms (3)
3rd Floor・・・guest rooms (4), hall
Three-story wooden buildings. No elevators or escalators.
