Me and my secondary schoolmates have been longing for a trip after our graduation trip to Okinawa 9 years ago. Old memories are recalled, all beautiful and filled with laughters.
Nagoya is for nature lover and ice-sport beginner:
Perhaps Nagoya is not the first place that pops up in your mind when you want to visit Japan. But think about it: It is the closest capital to Shirakawago, the world cultural heritage, as well as Takayama, where you can find the best beef (called Hida Beef), and the historical onsen cluster Gero. Must-travel town: Shirakawago, Norikura Kogen.
Shirakawago:
The best way to get to this infamous world cultural heritage is to take bus from Nagoya, it will be a 3-4 hour ride. Before you visit, make sure you check for the day when there is night-time light-up display, it only happens 4 time a year.
Norikura Kogen:
Norikura Kogen is located at Gifu prefecture, 60km east from the well-known tourist city Takayama. This place is worth for a go if the neighbouring Shirakawago is too touristic to you. Known for its undisturbed natural scenes and skiing spots during peak travel season, this hidden gem is great for ski beginners and nature lovers. The place is getting more easy to access for international travellers than ever, as a very welcoming local hostel, named Guest House Raicho, is offering value-for-money tour guide services in English.

In today's bike shop tour, we'll be taking a look at KAMIHAGI CYCLE'S new store at Meijo Park in Nagoya, Japan.

This is a brand new Specialized concept store, and actually the very first one of its kind in the Chubu region of central Japan. While the inside of the shop is not very large, it's packed with a bunch of ineteresting bikes and unique only in Japan items and jerseys.
There's also some very nice high end road bikes and TT bikes, which my wife Thuong quickly took a liking to.
Another great attraction with this shop is it's location. It's located at Meijo Park, which has it's own short 2km cycling course and has nice views of Nagoya Castle.

Pure Natural Kamikochi, Little Yosemite in Japan
Kamikochi, sometimes also known as the Little Yosemite. This scenic valley is at an altitude of 1,500 m above sea level and surrounded by high mountains of the Northern Japan Alps in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
The views of mountains and river are absolutely breathtaking that it was appointed as a Special Natural Monument and a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. It is only one of the two places that hold both titles at once together with Kurobe Gorge. Endless photo opportunities await. If you an outdoor person, Kamikochi has some very nice camping sites with access to many peaks: Mt. Hotaka (3,190 m), Mt. Yake (2,455 m), Mt.Yari (3,180 m), Mt. Jonen (2,857) and more. Definitely worth visiting.
■Suggested Itinerary
DAY 1 - Take an overnight bus from Shinjuku all the way to Kamikochi.（
DAY 2 - Arrive at Kamikochi and enjoy a real getaway .
DAY 3 - Wake up early to do a morning yoga, then go on to visit Japan's oldest original castle Matsumoto Castle.
DAY 4 - Return to Tokyo safely with energy filled.

Norikura Shine On! Cycle Challenge 2010
Don Morton's Half Fast Cycling Mob, a group of bicycle enthusiasts based in and around Tokyo, organized and executed the second Norikura Shine On! Cycle Challenge on July 24th and 25th, 2010. The event raised JPY 132,460 in donations for the Tyler Foundation. Thirty-three riders came together at Norikura Kogen to ride up to the top of Mt. Norikura, which is located on the border of Nagano and Gifu Prefectures to raise money for supporting children with cancer in Japan and their families.
Before the ride, the riders received special beads from the Tyler Foundation's Shine On! Beads of Courage Program. Joining Team Beads of Courage, they tied the beads around their wrists or to their bikes and carried them to the summit (Tatamidaira), at a height of 2,700m above sea level; the highest road in Japan.. These were returned to the Tyler Foundation, together with special messages of encouragement written by the cyclists to the kids battling against cancer.
A special guest at the event was Mr. Takumi Beppu of the Aisan Racing Team. Beppu-san encouraged all the riders, rode with them on the mountain, and kindly shared many tips about good riding technique.
Yuko Morita and Bailey from the Tyler Foundation's Shine On! Therapy Dog Program also joined the event. Challengers were able to spend time with Bailey (he is so cute!) and talk to Yuko about her work. This was a great opportunity for everyone to see exactly the sort of programs they were supporting.

This is about our second day in Japan. We started the Kurobe Tateyama Alpine route in Nagano, took different transportation methods, enjoyed beautiful scenery and ended the day at Mikurigaike Onsen, the highest onsen of Japan.

Kamikochi Kappa-bashi Bridge
Kappa-bashi Bridge is the busiest spot in Kamikochi, and is almost like the famous Shibuya Crossing intersection. It was so crowded that no Kappa were spotted!

I depart early in the morning from Osaka to Nagoya. It took me almost 2 hours to arrive at Nagoya by train. At Nagoya, I visited the Nagoya Castle and enjoyed their city life because I knew that my next destination is going to be away from the city, which is Gifu and Takayama areas. However, I was a little disappointed with what I experienced at Nagoya Port. I ended up eating instant noodle outside of a local convenient store, FamilyMart.

We spend an afternoon in Shirakawa-go Village famous for its gassho style houses preserved for over 300 years. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and it's just one to check off our must sees before we die list. One word to describe the place is Peaceful. Charming, too. If you're coming from Nagoya, it's just a bus ride away using Shoryudo Bus Pass which we purchased from Klook.com.
