Lucerne Excursions: Rigi, Bürgenstock, Pilatus, Switzerland
One of the great activities that you can enjoy while in Lucerne, Switzerland is cruise on Lake Lucerne and visit Mt. Rigi. You take the boat over to Weggis and go up the mountain to Rigi by cablecar.
Please subscribe:
Switzerland playlist At the top you can walk around and enjoy the views, then take a rack railway back down to Vitznau, finally catching the next boat for a return journey back to Lucerne.
The other great mountain to visit near Lucerne is Pilatus, easily reached by boat and rail, and an enjoyable option to consider on your way to Pilatus is a stop at Bürgenstock. It's a small mountain plateau with a dramatic cliff-hugging walking trail. Most of the boats to Pilatus stop here en-route so hop off at the Bürgenstock dock, ride the funky old-fashioned funicular to the top and start hiking, following the signs to the cliff walk. This is a level path with sweeping views across the lake and at the rock face of the mountain, looking straight down about 1000 feet. You can have snacks or a meal at the restaurant other attractions on the plateau, which include more hiking trails through the forest, several newly-built deluxe hotels and a nine-hole golf course.
From Bürgenstock continue by boat and rack rail ride to the top of Mount Pilatus. You take the boat to Alpnachstad, one hour and 10 minutes, and then you ride up the world's steepest cogwheel railway to the top of Pilatus for sweeping view of the lake.
They do have a lovely rustic restaurant at the top and there's even a hotel up there that you could spend the night at. You can return back down the same way on the rack railway or for a slightly faster alternative with a totally different routing and some variety, take the cable car down the backside of the mountain to Lucerne.

Rigi Kulm cogwheel rail (Mount Rigi), Lucerne, Switzerland GoPro 1080p
Review of the Mount Rigi excursion, Lucerne (Luzern). The Rigi is a mountain massif of the Alps, located in Central Switzerland. The whole massif is almost entirely surrounded by the water of three different water bodies. Rising to 1797 meters above sea level, Rigi Kulm is the highest peak of Mount Rigi. From where, you can enjoy a view of no fewer than 13 lakes and a regular sea of peaks, a 360-degree panorama which is truly worth the effort. To reach the top, board the cogwheel train in Vitznau or Arth-Goldau; Lucerne, Switzerland 2019. Shots were taken with GoPro Hero 7 Black 2.7K downsized to 1080p HD.
Rigi Switzerland - JUST AN AWESOME PLACE
▶ Check out my gear on Kit:
Rigi is with its 1800 meters not the highest mountains but it offers a priceless 360 view surrounded by endless lakes (13 if your counting). Additional to that you get a stunning view to the Swiss Alps, the super beautiful valleys and sunsets others would pay thousands of Dollars for it.
To get up you can choose to walk for round about 2-3 hours or take the train as we did. It is a little bit pricey (round about 70 Swiss Franks up and down) but its definitely worth the money! Up at the top, you will find this epic landscape we did show you, a good Swiss restaurant and a hotel if you wanna stay longer.
We just can recommend this place because it is still not that well know, like for example the Jungfraujoch but has also an epic view!
Travel safe, and don't get lost or killed. Be Gone.

Mount Rigi: Ascent by train from Vitznau, Switzerland
My short film shows a must-do tourist trip if you are in the vicinity of Lucerne. We join the train at Vitznau. Most travellers come to Vitznau by boat from Lucerne, across the beautiful lake. The shiny red carriages are pulled in this case by an electric engine, but some trains are also pulled by steam engines. Glancing at the tracks you will see that this is a cog-driven railway, the first in Europe, introduced in 1870. To this day it is also the highest standard-gauge railway in Europe. By this means the railway passenger is effortlessly drawn to the summit of Mount Rigi at 1798 metres!
From the station platform one can glance up at the giant Swiss flag, emblazoned on the rock face high above the town. Eager passengers gaze from the windows at the spectacular views of Lake Lucerne as the train begins its ascent. Trackside houses provide additional interest and their occupants occasionally wave cheerily at the passing carriages. Alpine meadows and forest trees add to the appeal and keep the passengers firmly focussed on the view through the windows.
Once the train arrives at the terminus near the summit, it is time to alight and really appreciate the panorama before us. The station is busy with further arriving trains disgorging their passengers, but there is plenty of open space up here to get away from the crowds! The views of the Alps and Lake Zug are unforgettable. The visitor is well catered for, even at this height, with the Rigi Kulm Hotel and Restaurant just a few footsteps away. A refreshment stop on the dramatically cantilevered terrace is a must. For those who wish to stand on the actual summit of the mountain there are only 170 metres to hike. What a blessing this railway is! The modern world has taken advantage of this high point and the impressive radio mast towers above us as we take in the unequalled 360 degree view.
For our descent we took the Blue train which took another route to bring us down at Goldau. This was an opportunity to see more enchanting forest and valley vistas with overviews of the settlements of Arth and Goldau. All-too-soon we had to descend onto the platform at Goldau. The return trip to Lucerne or Zurich is easily achieved from here by train.
