Senkoji Ropeway Cable Car, Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture | The Real Japan | HD
Onomichi City is in Hiroshima Prefecture, on the main island of Honshu, facing the Inland Sea.
It's a gateway to a series of small islands sitting in the Inland Sea of Japan. The city features in the seminal 1953 Yasujirō Ozu film Tokyo Story.
Onomichi's many temples attract spiritual tourists from across Japan, but you rarely see foreigners here. The well-informed ones often visit Mt. Senkoji via the Senkoji cable car.
The ropeway connects Sanroku Station and Senkojisancho Station of Onomichi Station. It's popular during cherry blossom season, but at other times of the year there are far fewer tourists to share the experience with.
The journey from the bottom to the summit takes around 3 minutes. En-route and from the top, the views over the Seto Inland Sea are extensive and impressive.

Senkoji Temple Mountain Ropeway in Onomichi
2017/10/10
Part of my Suzuka Nakamoto Photobook Pilgrimage Report:
Album in case you only want the pictures:
Riding a Ropeway to the top of Senkoji-yama (千光時山) Mountain, Onomichi City, Western Japan
Senkoji-yama mountain (千光時山) is located near the historic Onomichi City (尾道市) in Western Japan. It belongs to the Chugoku region, close to the Okayama city. If you take the Tokaido Sanyo Shinkansen (closer to Osaka than Fukuoka), you can get off at Shin-Onomichi station to get to this city.
Onomichi city is an old historic (yet modern) city, not well known to the foreign tourists. It has many historic temples. Most of these temples are located on and around Senkoji-yama mountain. You can easily reach many temples on this mountain by walk but you can also take the rope way to get to the top of the mountain and then walk down to see these temples. In addition to the temples, on top of the Senkojiyama mountain there is a beautiful garden and an observatory to view the surroundings.
This video shows the beautiful views of the Onomichi city (尾道市) harbor and it's inland port while taking the rope way to the top of the Senkoji mountain.
I hope you get a chance to see Onomichi city on your travels in Japan.

Gondola view of the Japanese port town Hiroshima - Miyajima Ropeway (HD)
This video shows the landscape of the Japanese port town Hiroshima looked down from Miyajima Ropeway. Hiroshima is best known as the first city in history to be targeted by a nuclear weapon. As shown in this video the city has completely been recovered and is nowadays one of the most beautiful cities in Japan. In Hiroshima prefecture there are two World Heritage Sites: one is Itsukushima Shrine and the other is the A-Bomb Dome of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial.

Senkoji Temple Mountain Ropeway in Onomichi
Senkoji Temple (千光時), Onomichi City, Western Japan
Senkoji Temple (千光時) is located on the sacred Senkoji-yama (千光時山) mountain in the historic city of Onomichi (尾道市). In addition to Senkoji temple, there are few other temples and this collection of temples make the Senkoji-Yama a sacred mountain.
Senkoji Temple was built in AD 860 and has great views of the Onomichi city harbor from it's main worship hall. The main worship hall (Hondo) itself, has a small hanging platform similar to the Kiyomizudera Temple. In the permises there is a small temple for Monk Kobo Daishi and a beautiful temple bell overlooking the Onomichi inland sea.
The surroundings of this temple are some of the most beautiful I have seen. It is also easy to get to this temple. Take the Tokaido Sanyo line shinkansen and get off at the Shin-Onomichi station. From the Shin-Onomichi station, the temple is close by. You can go up the mountain either by a ropeway or by walk.
Hope you get a chance to visit Senkoji Temple. Enjoy.

Mitakidera Temple in 4K - Hiroshima's Secret Jewel - 三瀧寺●広島市 - Japan As It Truly Is
The gorgeous Mitakidera Temple is the unseen gem ignored by the tourist mobs. Come and discover what they are all missing.
Mitakidera (三瀧寺) really should be at the top of the list for anyone going to visit Hiroshima City. But while so many go to see the Peace Park and museum, very few find this tranquil oasis and end of missing one of Japan's very finest. Mitaki-dera has a history going back 1200 years, and its name means Temple of the 3 Waterfalls. You can actually see several inside, and a flowing stream all around you will help deliver the Japan experience you've always wanted - and these days is harder to come by with the huge tourist crowds all around you.
The Mitakidera Temple also suffered damage from the Atomic bombing, being barely more than 3 km from the explosion. The Tahoto Pagoda was moved there in 1951 from Wakayama as a memorial to those killed. Today Mitakidera has a forest ravine stroll with statues on both mountainsides looking down, and a beautiful verdant green that almost glows around you.
For those interested in hiking, you can also go through the temple and take some trails leading up to the 356m mountaintop. Mitaki-dera is also beautiful in late November for its beautiful autumn colors, and their annual Maple Festival is on the 3rd Sunday of November. The cherry blossoms are also beautiful, on average starting around the end of March.
Mitakidera is a 20 minute walk from the JR Kabe Line's Mitaki Station, on Hiroshima City's west side. You can also take Bus #22 from Hiroshima Stn to Mitaki Kannon. Admission is 200 yen. Open hours are 8 AM to 5:30 PM (Dec-Feb ~5 PM).
