Mt. Shizugatake and Lake Biwa - Shiga Prefecture, Japan
On the top of Mt Shizugatake
Known as one of the eight picturesque sights of Lake Biwa, it provides a panoramic view of Okubiwako, Chikubu Island to the south-west, Mt Ibuki to the east, and Lake Yogo to the north. The old battlefield, where Katsuie Shibata and Hideyoshi Hashiba fought for the hegemony, has a stone monument on the mountain to venerate the dead soldiers.
Mount Shizugatake Hike
Rebecca and I decided to check out some of the local views and history in Nagahama, taking us up the nearby Yamamoto Mountain to the far away (and very famous) Shizugatake mountain, where supporters of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Shibata Katsuie (Oda Nobunaga's general) fought for control of Japan.
Hiking at Keimei Falls in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan
This waterfall is located to the west of Mt. Sasagatake near the border of Mie Prefecture. The ruins of an old temple can be found atop the mountain. According to legend, a golden rooster that proclaimed happiness on the morning of the New Year lived by Aka Ike, a pond on the temple precincts. The name, Keimei-no-Taki, the Falls of the Cock's Cry, comes from this story.

Shiga Trip
We went to Shiga prefecture to visit our friends J and Yuko. This is just the trip and first day. I didn't get any footage inside this onsen as it was crowded in the baths. Enjoy the two Yu-chans kicking the tanuki statue in the junk though.

Shimo-Yogo Taiko Drum Dance Festival 2014 下余呉太鼓踊り

A festival with over 200 years of history was about to die out due to a severe aging and declining population of of the area, called Yogo in Nagahama.
However, the locals have tried to preserve this special festival by accepting any children, boys or girls, and widening the traditional qualifying age range. In this footage Be Wa Member, Hirotsugu Tanida, captured the moment of their fresh new start in 2014.

Niiniizemi - Cicadas in a Japanese Garden
While studying Bunraku in Japan's Shiga Prefecture, I caught Cicadas for the first time! This smaller variety is called Niiniizemi!
