Day trip outside Tokyo Hiking Mount Oyama in Kanagawa Tanzawa-Ōyama Quasi-National Park. Mt Oyama is perfect for a road trip or day hike to the mountains in Japan. Hiking in Japan is rewarding be it solo hiking of family friendly hikes you will never forget these adventures. Go hiking in and around Tokyo! Better than always being stuck in the city.

Mount Ōyama has long been regarded as a holy mountain and object of worship. Religiously motivated mountain climbing has been practiced since the Hōreki era (1751–1764) and the various paths leading there were called Ōyama Kaidō (大山街道 Ōyama Kaidō). Today this name survives as the pseudonym of Route 246.
At the top of the mountain is the head office of the Ōyama-Afuri Shrine (大山阿夫利神社 Ō-yama-afuri Jinja). Lower down the mountain is the lower shrine and the Ōyama-dera (大山寺). Afuri refers to the high amount of rain and clouds associated with the mountain. Farmers pray at Ōyama-Afuri Shrine to the rain god.

Ohyama in Tanzawa,Kanagawa
Ohyama mountai in Tanzawa area is within easy reach from Tokyo. It is a religious area. The God of Aburi shrine is dedicated to the sea and it has a close relationship with Enoshima. Ohyama mountain can be safely climbed also in winter. The altitude difference from the foot to the top is about 1000 m, which is a good training.

Tanzawa-Oyama, just a short ride from Tokyo, is an area rich in mountains and the delights of nature and is especially famous for its hiking trails. The area's gateway Isehara is less than 1 hour away from Shinjuku on the Odakyu Line. With spectacular views from the mountain, the blue Lakes Miyagase and Tanzawa contrast with the springtime mountain greens, before later in the year exploding in flames of red and yellow autumn leaves; like so many before you, you will find the beauty of the region quite unforgettable.
Not only can your eyes feast in the joys of the four seasons, but also certainly worth a visit are such ancient holy sites as Oyama-dera Temple and the Oyama Afuri Shrine. In addition to hiking up the mountain, riding on the Oyama cable car with its aerial views, adds a little more drama to your journey. Sumptuous dishes made from local ingredients and the pure waters of Oyama are also very popular. Its tofu is so famous that people even say tofu for Oyama, Oyama for tofu.

こんにちは ! This is the first episode of my Autumn in Japan series. This video features Hasedera Temple, which is one of the top spots for autumn foliage viewing in Kamakura, Kanagawa prefecture. It wasn't the peak yet when my sister and I went to this place but it was the first day of the autumn illumination. It was still very beautiful and scenic. I'd love to go back to this place next week to see it turn crimson and orange. It was also rainy when we went there so we weren't able to go up the hill for safety reasons. Also, please excuse my voice in this video because I have a cold (since everyone is sick at this time of the year).
