UME MATSURI (Mount Tsukuba Plum Festival)
I went to Ume Matsuri! Plum Festival in English, at Mount Tsukuba! It was so incredibly beautiful, and so incredibly hot out! To summarize, I walked up the mountain, saw the pretty blooming flowers, ate some ice cream, and went to a hot spring ???? I hope you enjoy!
My dress is from Zara for anyone that is curious. **Spoiler alert: It has pockets!!!

Plum Blossom Festival - Ume Matsuri Yushima Tenjin Shrine
Ume Matsuri is Plum Blossom Festival in Japan and from early February to early March, Japanese celebrate these harbingers of Spring. Before the madness of Sakura (cherry blossom) and hanami (cherry blossom viewing party) it was the Plum Blossom that the Japanese adored, a tradition coming from China.
From the Nara Period (710-794) to the first half of the Heian Period (794-1185) the Plum Blossom reigned until it gave way to the Cherry Blossom. But even today many places have plum blossom festivals most notably shrines related to the God of Education, Tenjin. In life, Tenjin was Sugawara no Michizane, a scholar and statesman. As a scholar of Chinese, Sugawara loved the plum blossom.
Sugawara suffered political misfortune and was promoted-exiled to Kyushu where he died in 903. Some believed his ghost haunted the land and eventually to placate his angry spirit he was promoted in rank and later deified as the god of education.
Yushima Tenjin Shrine (also called Yushima Tenmangu) in Ueno, Tokyo has plum blossoms to view from February through March along with various entertainment on the weekend from tea ceremonies, folk dance, taiko drumming, biwa playing, and bringing a mikoshi (portable shrine) to the main shrine.

Ume Matsuri, Festival del Ciruelo en Kitano Tenmangu, Kioto
Kitano Tenmangu es un santuario sintoísta con más de mil años de historia, situado en el norte de la ciudad de Kioto.
Igual que Yasaka Jinja lo es a Gion, Kitano Tenmangu, es el santuario principal del barrio de Kamishichiken; el más pequeño y desconocido distrito de Geishas de la ciudad.
En primavera, cuando florecen los ciruelos, se celebra en sus jardines el Ume Matsuri, un festival en el que se pueden observar los ciruelos en flor y degustar tés y pastas tradicionales japonesas.
Cada 25 de Febrero hay una ceremonia del té muy especial, dónde las Maiko y Geiko del barrio, sirven té verde y dulces a los visitantes.

2019 Plum Blossom Festival at Mito Kairakuen, Ibaraki, Japan. White, pink and red plum blossoms are in full bloom. Plum blossoms in the light-up at night are sensitively spectacular! Bamboo forest is also lit up creating magical beauty.
水戸偕楽園の梅祭り-2019。白、ピンク、赤の梅の花が満開です。夜のライトアップによる梅花はほのかに情緒豊かな美しさ。竹林のライトアップも幻想的で素晴らしい。
