TSURUGI MOUNTAIN JAPAN 剣山登り
Mount Tsurugi, meaning sword, is a 1,954.7-metre-high mountain on the border of Miyoshi, Mima and Naka in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. This mountain is one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains.
I climbed this mountain with my brother and sister. It was really tiring but the weather was great and we enjoyed a lot.

Mt.Tsurugi Trail [Tokushima Shikoku]
The second highest mountain in western Japan at 1,955 meters elevation boasts excellent scenery and you can see as far as Kishu area, the Seto Inland sea and even Cape Ashizuri in a fine day from its summit. Its panoramic view is breathtaking and the sea of clouds are very magical. You can find beautiful alpine plants when in season, such as Kirengeshoma palmata.
The name, Tsurugi meaning sword, originates from the legend that sword of the Emperor Antoku was hidden deep within these remote mountain. It is also known as the sacred mountain for mountain pilgrimage.

Shikoku, Part I: Mt Tsurugi 車中泊編
Our return to Shikoku included climbing that island's two highest peaks, Mt Tsurugi and Mt. Ishizuchi.
Tsurugi was a do-over. We'd been in Shikoku earlier in the winter and approached Tsurugi from the west, on a route that was (we learned the hard way) closed due to a bridge that was being rebuilt. A fun adventure but a climbing FAIL.
This time we approached from the east on a more popular route to the trailhead, and later in the year so there was less snow.
We were still ahead of the regular hiking season so the trail was wonderfully empty -- the few folks (only two or three) we did meet were employees of various lodges or mountain huts, hauling up supplies and getting ready for the upcoming onslaught of hikers expected for Golden Week.

Mt Tsurugi Attacking the Palace of Crags- 日本の旅
Mt. Tsurugi in Toyama Prefecture is one of the most impressive peaks in Japan's Northern Alps range, rising to a height of 2,999 meters. Because of its jagged appearance it is often called the Palace of Crags. Although modern alpinism was introduced in the late Meiji period (1868-1912), Tsurugi was the last of Japan's major mountains to be climbed. It is still considered the hardest.
On this edition of Journeys in Japan, Cveto Podlogar leads the way through beautiful autumnal scenery. He explores sites that bear testimony to Japan's modern industrial history. And he overcomes setbacks to finally scale the Palace of Crags - the summit of Mt. Tsurugi.
