Best UNKNOWN Village in Japan｜Yahiko Village
Yahiko Village is situated on the Sea of Japan side of the central part of Niigata Prefecture. Its western side borders Niigata City and Nagaoka City with sacred Mt. Yahiko (634 meters) in between. While Tsubame City neighbors the eastern and southern sides of the village, there is a fertile grain-growing region abutting Niigata City on the northern side. This area is famous for edemame and rice and is known as a power spot, a place that people venture off to regain their energy from the busy city life.

One last amazing Autumn trip before the Winter hits! Good weather, beautiful nature, rich history, spiritual place...It’s just a perfect spot to unwind and find peace of mind. Yukyuzan Park is one of the most visited places in Nagaoka during Spring and Fall season as it has over 2,000 cherry blossom trees that bloom in Spring and change leaves’ colors in Fall. It also has three small shrines, a mini zoo, a wide play ground, a large walk park and a castle shaped-like museum inside it. Its welcoming and lively atmosphere will certainly energize you. You shouldn’t miss visiting this place when you go to Nagaoka City.

Husband-throwing in snow may not be an Olympic sport yet, but in Japan's central prefecture of Niigata, it has been going on since the 18th Century.
The custom is practiced annually on January 15th in the city of Tokamachi. It supposedly started as retaliation by men against outsiders who married local girls.
Three newly-married couples took part in this year's event on Wednesday. The kimono-clad husbands were carried to the top of a hill and thrown one by one into two meters of snow. They rolled down the slope to their waiting wives.

We usually visit Nagaoka in January when its covered in Snow. We were there in September just recently which had great weather apart from the Typhoons ravaging parts of the country. We checked out some of my wifes hometown attractions that I havn't seen before. How cool is that spinning tower? : )
