Hawking in Tokyo - Takagari (Japanese Falconry)

I do a little hawking in Tokyo as you do during the New Year holiday. Takagari is Japanese falconry and every January 2nd and 3rd Japanese falconers do a demonstration at Hamarikyugen Park.

I volunteer to do Takajo Takein where visitors can call the birds to them with a lure of raw meat in a small wooden case. You clack the lid of the box on the edge of the box until the bird flies towards you and lands on your (hopefully) gloved hand (and doesn't shred your face to pieces).

Not being a professional hawker needless to say it took a lot of clacking and looking like a fool before the bird decided to wing its way over.

BTW I plan to do a longer video on this subject sometime later
