Nestled on top of Mount Kameyama is Marugame Castle (丸亀城), located in Marugame city, Kagawa Prefecture, Shikoku. Completed in 1602 by the feudal lord Ikoma Chikamasa, Marugame Castle is one of the 12 remaining “original” Japanese Castles. An original castle is a castle that has survived the post feudal time period (post 1868) without being damaged or destroyed.
Being located in the strategic hilltop location, Marugame Castle overlooked both the city it governed as well as the Seto Inland Sea. With trade and enemies utilizing the waterways, the position of the castle strengthened the city’s control.
Just thirteen years after Ikoma Chikamasa built Marugame Castle, it was dismantled due to a new policy limiting the number of castles per province. However, after the province was divided into two in 1660, the castle was reconstructed. In 1869, fire destroyed many of the buildings of the castle. And through time, other acts of destructions were committed. As a result, all which remain today are the stone walls, a few buildings, the Ote Ichino Gate (first gate), the Ote Nino Gate (second gate) and the tenshu (keep). The Japanese Government recognizes the original castle buildings as Important Cultural Properties.
Marugame Castle also known as Kameyama Castle is located in Kameyama Park. Visitors will need to climb upwards on a steep path, circling the hill to arrive at the castle grounds. In addition to roaming through the grounds and buildings, visitors may wish to visit the small museum located in the castle’s main keep. Also, with the castle located atop Mount Kameyama, visitors making the steep climb are rewarded to spectacular views of both Marugame city and Seto Inland Sea.
Being a popular tourist spot, visitors to Marugame City often visit these grounds. However, particularly in the spring, the castle is crowded due to the 1000 cherry blossom trees planted around castle’s stone walls and near the main keep. Cherry blossoms bloom from late March to early April in this area. During the first two weeks, there is an annual cherry blossom festival held here.

About Tokushima City's Awa Odori
This Tokushima festival features folkdances performed to welcome the souls of ancestors
During the Obon season in mid August, Awa Odori are held each place in Tokushima prefecture and Tokushima City's Awa Odori is the most famous of many dance festivals held even across Japan. Awa is the former name for Tokushima Prefecture and Odori means dance.
From August 12th to15th, spectators and dancers come to Tokushima in the thousands to see this Fool's Dance whose origins date back 400 years (Edo period). This nickname comes from the lyrics to a common dance song, which translates as follows: Fools dance and fools watch, Both are fools alike so, Why not dance? .
Although some performance are takes place during the daytime, the main spectacle takes place between 18:00 and 22:30, when groups of dancers called ren perform in blocked off streets of downtown Tokushima. Ranging from amateurs gathered just days before the event, to veterans who practice year round, the ren come from Tokushima, other parts of Japan and as far away as the United States.
The groups dance through designated spectator areas (演舞場,enbujo) in a procession. They go,playing traditional musical instruments. Ren distinguish themselves with difficult variations and colorful uniforms, though the dance steps are simple. Women wear cotton robes called yukata, while men wear happi (shorter yukata over pants or shorts). Like the dance, these standards differ from group to group.
In the evening, Tokushima's city center shuts down and is turned into a large dance stage. There are seven different stage areas which are either free or paid seating. The paid stages are sure to see the professional groups, while the former will have more casual dancers as well. Typical festival flourish, such as food and game stalls, as well as more dancing, are held outside of the stage areas.
Visitors planning to see Awa Odori may have difficulty securing one of Tokushima City's hotels, as hotels are booked out months in advance. Many spectators have to stay some other place; options include nearby Naruto (40 minutes by train), Takamatsu (1 hour by train), or even Osaka (2.5 hours by car).
Tickets for the four reserved stage areas can be bought in advance or on the day. The tickets range between 800 and 2100 yen for a two hour block of performances (first block from 18:00 - 20:00 or second block from 20:30 - 22:30). The tickets can be purchased at convenience stores nationwide. Same day tickets are also sold by the tourist information center in front of Tokushima Station (10:00- 20:30) and outside each of the reserved stage (17:00 - 21:30) on festival nights.
Awa Odori museum is, Awa Odori Kaika
For visitors to Tokushima who miss the festival, the Awa Odori hall(Awa Odori Kaikan) offers you experience in watching Awa Odori demonstrations which are. held several times a day. In addition, the lower station of the ropeway leading up to Mount Bizan is located in the Awa Odori Kaikan building.
Access Information
Via train
From Tokyo or Osaka, board the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen to Okayama. In Okayama, a switch to a rapid train is required to continue onto Takamatsu. From Takamatsu, both local and limited express trains complete the trip to Tokushima.
From Tokyo, the one-way journey takes about 6-7 hours with a cost of 19,000yen. From Osaka, the one- way cost is around 10,500 yen and the trip duration is about four hours. The journeys are fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass, but pass holders have to use Hikari or Sakura rather than Nozomi or Mizuho trains along the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen.
Via bus
From Tokyo:
Direct night buses from Tokyo to Tokushima depart from Shinagawa bus terminal at Shinagawa Station. The bus is jointly operated by Tokushima Bus and Keikyu Bus. A one way journey costs 11,500 yen and takes almost 10 hours.
From Osaka:
Two or more highway buses per hour depart from Osaka (OCAT bus terminal and Nankai bus terminal in Namba and JR Highway Bus and Hankyu Sanbancho bus terminals close to Osaka Station) to Tokushima Station. The one way journey costs 3,700 yen and takes about 2.5 hours.
Via air
Both JAL and ANA operate out of Tokushima Airport. JAL flies from Tokushima to Fukuoka, Sapporo and Tokyo's Haneda Airport, while ANA connects Tokushima with Nagoya's Chubu Airport. The regular one way fare on the Tokyo route is around 35,000 yen. Although discount tickets usually available for around 10,000 to 20,000 yen, most discounts are not available during the Awa Odori.

ANA B767-300 羽田⇒広島 富士山が見やすいシートは? Which seat is best for seeing Mt. Fuji ?

In this video, we created a VTR focusing on which seats are best for viewing Mt. Fuji when using ANA domestic flights from Haneda Airport to Hiroshima Airport.
There are mainly six air routes heading west from Haneda Airport. There are courses that run north, directly above, and south of Mt. Fuji.
For example, the flight to Itami flies to the south side of Mt. Fuji.
On the other hand, flight to Fukuoka. They fly north of Mt. Fuji, so you can see Mt. Fuji better on the left seat.
Please refer to ANA and JAL destinations for the directions to see Mt. Fuji on flights west from Haneda Airport.
Direction to see Mt. Fuji on a flight west from Tokyo Haneda Airport
For ANA domestic flights
(Left side)
Iwakuni, Oita, Okayama, Kumamoto, Kobe, Komatsu, Saga, Takamatsu, Toyama, Tottori, Nagasaki, Chubu, Noto, Sakai / Iwami, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Matsuyama, Ube Yamaguchi, Yonago
(Right side)
Ishigaki, Itami, Naha, Kagoshima, Kansai, Kochi, Tokushima, Miyako, Miyazaki
For JAL domestic flights
(Left side)
Izumo, Komatsu, Nagasaki, Chubu, Hiroshima, Fukuoka
(Right side)
Amami Oshima, Ishigaki, Itami, Naha, Kagoshima, Kansai, Kochi, Tokushima, Nanki Shirahama, Miyako, Miyazaki
(Can not see it right above)
Oita, Okayama, Kitakyushu, Kumamoto, Takamatsu, Matsuyama, Ube Yamaguchi
On the contrary, on flights from West Japan to Haneda, basically all flights pass through the south side of Mt. Fuji, and Mt. Fuji is better seen on the left seat.
