MUCKNO PARK CASTLEBLAYNEY
A short film about Lough Muckno Leisure Park in Co. Monaghan, Ireland.
Lake Muckno - County Monaghan - Things to Do in Monaghan
Yes, we love parks, lakes, and everything else that is related to nature, especially those places which we get the chance to walk through and explore the different routes which they might carry for us - just like Lake Muckno and the different paths we got the chance to choose from.
Lake Muckno - which is also known as Lough Muckno in the Irish language - is a freshwater lake in the northeast of Ireland, which is located in county Monaghan beside the town of Castleblayney - where other attractions are located as well.
The main purpose behind the trip was to have a walk by Lake Muckno and see this freshwater, but in order not to get easily bored and not to make it a trip that is not so much welcomed by the kids, we had to get inside the park and have a walk of trail exploration inside there - that's why we decided to go through the black island walk in Muckno Peace Park - where there was the nature trail that the kids got excited about.
I have already mentioned above that Lake Muckno lies beside the town of Castleblayney and that is one reason why lots of people consider it located in it. Actually, Lough Muckno is considered the largest lake in Castleblayney.
There is a history behind Muckno Peace Park that is located in Castleblayney; it was originally part of the estate family Balyney after which the town of Castleblayney is named before it was given to Henry Thomas Hope who the Castle Hope was named after - that castle which we witnessed with the kids from far away while exploring the park and walking through the trail we have chosen to take.
Following the trail with the kids, there were really beautiful scenes which we came across - especially the castle we have seen on the other side - and the most interesting thing about the walk was choosing a path or trail to follow - and telling the kids that we are lost in the middle of it all :-) - before we managed to reach the end point or the place where we have started the walk once again.
County Monaghan is a county in Ireland that is part of the Border Region and is in the province of Ulster. Lake Muckno is one of the different places of nature that are located in county Monaghan but there are also some other destinations that tourists could head for - even Irish people who might have never been to these places will have some good and fresh time there.
From the different places that one could go to and visit, there is County Monaghan Museum, Patrick Kavanagh centre, the Celtic High Cross, St. Tiernach's Grave, the Clones Round Tower ( the Inniskeen Round Tower, and different other places which one could get the chance to discover and know more about.
Lough Muckno Leisure Park is one of the different parks that one could visit in county Monaghan and enjoy a little bit of nature and have a walk through it with the rest of the family, but there are other ones which one could visit as well and which include the Billy Fox Memorial Park in Latton, Dartrey Forest in Rockcorry, as well as Rossmore Forest Park; so one could always choose between different parks in order to enjoy a walk through nature.
There are actually a lot of adventures done in this area which might be more held for school students and which include camps, riding boats, as well as having a walk in the park in general. We actually went for a little bit of adventure with the kids by just following the trail and enjoying the view of the lake and its freshwater, but unfortunately we didn't get the chance to ride a boat or camp there.
We have been through different experiences with the parks in Ireland and Northern Ireland such as visiting the Lough Muckno Park and which is all about the walks there as well as enjoying the view of nature and being close to the water. From those other experiences in parks which we have been to, we visited Sir Thomas and Lady Dickson Park in Belfast ( we have also visited the Colin Glen Park in Belfast where the kids enjoyed following the Gruffalo Trail ( we have also been to the Phoenix Park in Dublin ( we went to the Tollymore Forest Park in Newcastle ( - there are actually different parks in Ireland and Northern Ireland which one could visit and enjoy with the rest of the family, alone, or even with some friends.
We truly enjoyed our experience in Lake Muckno Park and we might come back for it if we want to have a walk around. Share with us your experience if you have been to the Lake Muckno before and what you have done there, and if you haven't ever been there, did our video excite you and get you more interested about the place? Tell us more about your experience or your plans.

Rossmore Forest Park - Monaghan - County Monaghan - Ireland
Forest parks, gardens, running around; that's how we sometimes choose to discover and explore Northern Ireland and know more about those hidden gems which not all the people know about and not all the tourists tend to visit - we are opening your eyes about everything that might be found in Ireland, just like visiting the Rossmore Forest Park in county Monaghan.
Rossmore Forest Park is located in Monaghan town, county Monaghan, which is beautiful with all those flowers and walks which one will move through and feel the hard work that has been exerted in this place. Rossmore Forest Park was given that name for the Rossmore Castle which was built back in the old days by Robert Cunningham, an MP for Monaghan Borough from 1679 to 1796, who commenced the building of the castle and left it to be completed by his son, Henry Robert.
In addition to the castle which is believed to be the main attraction in this forest park, there are also other things to be placed in consideration, such as the buttresses to the castle walls and the entrance stairway which are the things kept to provide a viewing point to the surrounding countryside, as well as the wedge tomb and the court tomb which are also considered from the things that visitors come to check.
For those who come to visit Rossmore Forest Park, there are things to look out for, such as the rhododendron and azalea display which is attractive for the flowering display and for the shelter it offers for game birds. There are also many of the original estate trees which still remain until today, such as the Scots pine, cedars, and a monkey puzzle. Also the main avenue to the car park displays several large sierra or giant redwoods while and avenue of yew trees runs a full 460 meters from the walled garden to the mausoleum in the graveyard.
In addition to the green areas and the trees which one will immediately fall in love with in the Rossmore Forest Park, there are also some mammals to consider and which you could get across them while being there, such as otters, badger, fox, hedgehog, and pigmy shrew, also five of Ireland's seven species of bat are to be found in the locality as well as the large residential population of birds and migrants such as wildfowl which increase in winter and warblers, swallows, cuckoo, and flycatchers in summer - in other words, we could say that there are lots of different things that one will get the chance to see and witness in this park when it comes to nature and the beautiful creatures that are living there which one could manage to see.
After our visit to this park with the kids, we could assure you that it is a very nice place to head to for a walk - even the kids loved the idea of running around the place once they entered the park - it was really amazing. You just have to choose the right time of the year to head there in order to see the place in its real beauty, but about the weather, we know that it is considered hard to expect the weather of Ireland and know how it will be throughout the rest of the day :-)
There are different things that one could visit in Monaghan town in Ireland, we have previously been to the Clones Town and I was so happy to bring back some of the old memories back from home ( we have also been to county Monaghan before to visit Leslie Castle and meet some friends at the Hillgrove Hotel, which we believe was another good experience as well ( another destination was Lake Muckno and the walk we had there ( and we ended those things which we tend to explore in county Monaghan with Rossmore Forest Park and the walk we had there with the kids.
There are different parks in Ireland and Northern Ireland - and we have to say that every single one of them is beautiful on its own and offers a different kind of experience - and we have actually been to several ones before with the kids - we walking around and the kids running and playing.
The suggestions which we might give you for those parks and gardens include the famous Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park in Belfast which is considered the most popular and dates back to a very long time ( there is also a park called Phoenix Park located in Dublin which is also another kind of experience ( the St. Stephen's Green Park which is also located in Dublin and which is sometimes referred to as City Centre Park ( and there are actually different other ones which might be resembling trails for one to explore or might be carrying statues or other characters which might be related to stories of famous writers and movies or cartoons.

Travel Around: Monaghan Town #TuesdayTreasure
This week I travelled to Monaghan, Ireland. It is in Ulster, on the border of the Republic and Northern Ireland.
Unfortunately on the day I was there, the weather didn't permit much adventure to the many parks and lakes around but however the narrow streets and unique architecture, it is a place worth visiting.
