Ancient Temples of Charthana - Parbhani (Part - 1)

Charthana is a major village in Jintur taluka of Parbhani district in Maharashtra state of India. It used to be known as Charukshetra Nagari in the name of king Charudatta. There are near about 360 temples of Mahadeva, some of which are under the ground. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has acquired the remaining temples for conservation, some of which are under restoration. Narsimha Tirth , Gokuleshwar Temple & Barav, Jain Sthambha and Ganapati Temple are in good condition except Renuka Devi Temple, Ukkandeshwar Temple, Jain Temple and Godareshwar Temple which need restoration.

Dharasur is a Village in Gangakhed Taluka in Parbhani District of Maharashtra State, India.There is a temple of lord Shiva situated on the bank of river Godavari, that is called Gupteshwar Mahadev Temple . Temple was built in 11th century during Chalukyan regime. This temple is supposed to be one of the few amongst having Shikhar intact so far. A sculpture of Lord Vishnu is so beautiful & great in artistic view .Carving & sculptures of Lord Ganesha, Vishnu, Chamunda & Madanikas on this temple walls are so beautiful which makes it a unique monument. That's why it is considered to be a holy tirthakshetra in the surrounding area. Considering its geographical location on the bank of river godavari which has water in it around the year due to Khadka dam & Historical importance of the temple Dharasur has been declared a tourist spot of Parbhani in the year 2013. .People are celebrating Saptah on the occasion of Mahashivratri from many years . Even though today, Shiva is the main deity in the temple,once this must be the temple of Lord Vishnu , because most of the sculptures of Vishnu are seen on the outer wall of the temple . Another proof is that an unprecedented Vishnu idol found recently in the premises of the temple. This Vishnu idol is currently placed in Keshavraj temple near the Gupteshwar temple.

प्राचिन काळी श्रृंगमुनींनी वसविल्यामुळे श्रृंगगाव हे नाव पडलेल्या या गावास पुढे शेगांव म्हणून ओळखले जाऊ लागले. येथील सुप्रसिध्द शिवमंदिरामुळे या गावास शिवगांव असेही म्हणत. या शिवगांवाचे पुढे शेगांव असे नामकरण झाले. शेगांव या गावाच्या जन्मकथेबद्दल विविध मते असली तरीही आज मात्र हे ओळखले जाते ते परब्रह्.मस्वरूप संतश्रेष्ठ श्री गजानन महाराज यांच्या पावन वास्तव्यामुळे. महाराष्ट्रातील बुलढाणा जिल्ह्यातील शेगांव या खेडेगावात श्रींच्या पदस्पर्शाने तसेच त्यांच्या संजीवन वास्तव्यामुळे समृद्धीची गंगा, भावभक्तिची यमुना व ज्ञानरूपी सरस्वती सतत वाहत आहेत.

This town was once established by Shrungmuni ancient times and so was known as Shrung gaon. The famous temple of Lord Shiva in this town also gave it recognition as Shivgaon. Later Shivgaon became Shegaon. There might be a few legends about Shegaon but undoubtedly, it has a unique importance and identity. Shegaon mainly known for the arrival of a bounteous, pious and the most noble holy figure, i.e. Shri Gajanan Maharaj and his holy stay. One holy man landed in shegaon and with his omnipotent capacity changed the gloomy picture of this hamlet. He showered the blessings on the people who had barren life and gave them a taste of prosperity, spirituality and a path for meaningful life. Thus, this small village lying in the dark corners of Buldana district emerged as one of the happening places with spiritual touch in Maharastra.
