They did not want to go back to Delhi. During the reign of Malik Ambar many people were attracted to the city and came and settled here from far and wide. Aurangabad during Aurangzeb's Governorship and the times of Mughal became the capital and the weavers had a gala time making money and becoming prosperous. Paithani sarees by Shatika
Decked out in Tota-Maina, Ashraffi, Hans and Bangadi Mor motifs, Paithani sarees come from the Paithan town in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. The making of ‘Kadiyal’ borders that have same colors for warp and weft with double turning weaves is a celebrated skill among the entire handloom space of India. Interestingly, Paithanis undergo seven steps of special dying process before the fine silk threads are laid down on the loom. Made only for those rolling in money, pure handloom Paithani sarees are a little expensive. Yet again, money doesn’t compare to all the laboriousness involved behind the scenes. check out the entire collection at:

Paithani - Poem in Silk and Gold
An informative documentary on paithani sari made in Paithan near Aurangabad. The Paithani of Maharashtra is not just a silk sari of gorgeous colours, intricate design and painstaking labour, It is part of a culture given more to thrift than flamboyance, but which also treasured elegance and beauty. It tells us of a people who were willing to spend lavishly to clothe their womenfolk in nine yards of the traditional silk and spun gold, crafted by indigenous weavers, especially on festive occasions.
The video was shot for academic purpose for promoting the craft of Paithani, for MSSIDC (Maharashtra small scale industry development corporation)
