Mughal bridge Chowha Gujjar Peshawar- مغل پل پشاور
A Mughal-era construction probably built during Shah Jehan’s rule in 1629, the bridge is 100 yards long and six yards wide with six-foot tall pillars on each side. The pillars are topped with beautiful domes which add to the grandeur of the bridge. Two of the domes, however, have fallen off. As is typical of Mughal architecture, there are 12 arched tunnels or water ways running under the bridge.
The bridge is in considerably good condition, despite the fact that it has been there for more than three centuries and has not been preserved as a historical site. It is among the few Mughal monuments in the city of Peshawar. In his book, Peshawar: Past and Present, SM Jafar shows the original plaque with Emperor Shah Jehan’s name and details of the bridge on it, such as the date of construction.
One of the pillars used to have a plaque with details about the historic bridge, but it has been removed. Researcher Humayun Akhund said residents claimed the plaque was taken away by officials from the archeology department. He added that they had searched the department and found nothing. “If we had the plaque, we would be able to learn about the bridge’s history,” he said. “But since we do not have any historical documents or manuscripts, we don’t know much. The structure and design show that this was built in the Mughal period.”

Tomb of Dai Anga built by Mughal King Shah Jehan In Lahore 1655 Ad
The numerical value of the garden name gives its date as 1066 AH, or 1655 AD (Latif, 1892, 134; Schimmel, 1993). Inside, the tomb of Dai Anga dates to 1671, which suggests that a residential garden was probably converted to the tomb-garden after her death. The garden was originally square, with the tomb placed in the center. The square measured 250 Mughal yards (gaz) on a side, slightly smaller than the tomb-garden of Asaf Khan in Shahdara, but larger than those of the great nobles Ali Mardan Khan and Mahabat Khan which lie to the south and east along the Grand Trunk Road.
Extensive residences, villages, shrines, and tomb-gardens began to line the new alignment of the Grand Trunk Road in the mid-seventeenth century—villages like Kot Khwaja Saeed, Bhogiwal, and Begumpura (Woman's Town).

Gulabi Bagh or Kulabi Bagh Built By Mughal Kingh Shah Jehan 1655 Ad
This beautiful tile-decorated gate located on Grand Trunk Road was entrance to Gulabi Bagh (Rose Garden) from southern side, built in 1655 by a Persian noble, Mirza Sultan Beg who was Admiral of the Fleet under the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.
The numerical value of the garden name gives its date as 1066 AH, or 1655 AD (Latif, 1892, 134; Schimmel, 1993). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Forget Everything Else
Hey All!
Do Not Miss to Visit Heritage Sites & Taste Traditional Foods & Delicacies in Peshawar - the Lone Living City of Gandhara Civilisationin in Asia.
On the World Tourism Day 2019, the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) launched a promo containing visuals of historic sites in Peshawar and an audio rhythmical song of various musical instruments being played in different parts of the province.
The Promo on Peshawar screens parks, historic and heritage sites of the city, including Qissa Khawani Bazaar, Balahisar Fort, Gor Khatri, Ghanta Ghar, Sethi House, Masjid-e-Mahabat Khan, Peshawar Museum, Namakmandi, Islamia College, Peshawar Zoo and others.
All these marvelous places have been saved through the lens of camera to share it with all and sundry in a bid to promote tourism and culture of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The tourists can use the video as a guide to enjoy visits to a number of historic places and bazaars in the city.
The video starts with an overview of the zigzag Torkham Road with speeding vehicles entering Peshawar via Bab-e-Khyber. Built in 1963, the Bab-e-Khyber is a monument which stands at the entrance of the Khyber Pass in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The gate is immediately west of Peshawar, while the historic Jamrud Fort is adjacent to the gate.
Then the camera clicks on the historic Islamia College Peshawar. Founded in October 1913 by the great benefactor of Pakhtuns - Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan - the Islamia College Peshawar is the lone prestigious seat of learning in the City of Flowers with unique structure of Muslim architectural touch along the façade of lush green lawn and lofty and medium-sized trees. The overview of the historic structure is really mesmerizing and eye-catching.
Cunningham Clock Tower is the next attraction in the City. The Cunningham Clock Tower, or the Ghanta Ghar was built in 1900 in commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen Empress. The tower was named after Sir George Cunningham, the former British governor and political agent in the province.
The majesty four-tiered Ghanta Ghar is situated at the entrance of Cultural Heritage Trail that goes straight to the Gor Khatri Archaeological Complex. Last year, the KP government launched the Cultural Heritage Trail Project, which was undertaken and completed in the heart of the city to highlight the culture of Peshawar.
The Heritage Trail starts from the 118-year-old Ghanta Ghar and passes through Bazaar-e-Kalaan and Mohallah Sethian and ends at Gor Khatri Archaeological Complex.
The New Muslim Meena Bazaar and Shaheen Bazaar entrances are on both sides of the Heritage Trail. These two women shopping centres house scores of shops selling clothes, garments, cosmetics and other accessories.
Under the Heritage Trail project, the facades of heritage buildings and structures were renovated and refurbished, which are now presenting a pleasant look to the visitors.
After Cunningham Clock Tower, the camera goes through the dry fruit shops and the Heritage Trail and captures the famous Sethi House - the reminiscent of glorious past - at the Mohallah Sethian. The Sethi Mohalla is reminiscent of how elite Peshawari folk used to build their houses. There are seven havelis built in almost the same style, in a street less twisting and turning than usual streets of the walled city.
These havelis are rare architectural masterpieces which were built by the affluent Sethi family. They are a blend of the art and architecture of Gandhara and Central Asia, and their design is inspired by the vernacular architecture of Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
The house with the Directorate of Archaeology was built by Sethi Karim Bakhsh. The house consists of three portions: the Tehkhana (basement), Dalan (courtyard) and Balakhana (first floor). Its construction began in 1835, and was finally completed after 49 years, in 1884.
The historic Peshawar Museum is the next destination in the videography. Built in 1907, the Peshawar Museum is notable for its collection of Buddhist artwork dating from the ancient Gandhara Empire.
The Peshawar Museum was founded as Victoria Hall, in memory of Queen Victoria. The two-storey building was built in a syncretic architectural style consisting of British, Hindu, Buddhist and Mughal Islamic styles.
Initially, the museum had only one exhibition hall, but two more were added in 1969–70. In 2004–05, the museum was further expanded with the construction of a new block with two galleries, two halls for the museum's collection in storage, offices for the provincial directorate of archaeology, a conservation laboratory and a cafeteria. The historic exhibition hall was also renovated at that time.
