Avon Aqueduct near Linlithgow, Scotland from the air
The Avon Aqueduct is a navigable aqueduct on the Union Canal near Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland, United Kingdom. It is 810 feet (250 m) long and 86 feet (26 m) high; it is the longest and tallest aqueduct in Scotland, and the second longest in Britain (after the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Wales). It can be viewed from Muiravonside Country Park. The aqueduct was built after a design by Thomas Telford, there are twelve arches, and the water is carried in a cast iron trough. There is a towpath along one side.

Old Photographs Avonbridge Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Avonbridge village in the Falkirk area. The village lies at the junction of the B8028 and B825 roads and is a bridging point over the River Avon, hence the name Avonbridge. During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries Avonbridge was home to small scale open cast coal mining. The village also had a brickworks in the mid twentieth century, Avonbridge Brickworks, which no longer exists. The name Avonbridge derives from the fact that the village crosses a river. The word, avon, is often found in the Celtic language which denotes the presence of a river, in this case the River Avon. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
A nice walk from Linlithgow along the Avon river under the rail viaduct and on to the Avon Aqueduct for the union canal. Great walk and enjoyed it.
